This was the right player for me.

This is my first Walkman player in about 11 years. What I like about the SONY Walkman MP3 machines is their absolute simplicity of purpose. This particular model doesn't even feature a video player - so it is strictly dedicated to sound enjoyment (and yes - a few JPEGs, if you want them). SONY has made some gains and compromises over the years, so I would offer that the start-up is nice and fast (whereas the old machine took at least 15 seconds from 'off'), the control panels on the front are hair-trigger and easy to mis-strike. Additionally, per limitations of SONY's philosophy, remote buttons on lanyard headphones will not work - not even volume controls. It is, after all (and thankfully) not a phone.
The switch from metal to plastic has made the object so light as to be almost too light for the hands (particularly large hands). I've looked for a good cover and haven't really found an equivalent to what I had which covered the face plate. I'm searching through drawers for a screen protector - assuming the information window is delicate plastic. The 30-hour battery life claim may be true, but it hasn't been thoroughly tested by me. I'm looking forward to it, though. As a light, affordable, great-sounding player, this is probably far ahead of the pack. Just get a little case for it and the headphones and you''ll be well-served. The AAC format seems to be very economical on file size, so even the smallest model holds lots of CDs.

good sound, easy to use

pros, good sound, easy to use. Manual equalizer. The Software allows to create playlists and easily drag and drop music from computer files. Cons, the encasing is made of a cheap plastic. The earbuds that come with it are of poor quality. Had to get a better ones from apple. Read full review...

great for keeping favorite songs

I wanted somthing that worked with windows 10 and could hold my favorite songs .I havent had it for very long yet . I don't really know battery life yet . The only thing I don't like is when I want to change songs or load my own playlist it gets complicated between getting walkman to accept songs and getting constent warnings not to unhook device.Read full review...

Sony Walkman Purchase

Sony Walkman has good sound. It is relatively easy to use. I do not like the ear buds, they are difficult to insert correctly. I have ordered head phones that I hope will work better. Battery life does not seem to be super good, but I'll just have to make sure I charge them frequently. Price seemed to be pretty good.Read full review...

Must be better in any means.

It'd been a long time when I wanted to have this particular player and eventually, I bought it. I am a Sony fan and I wished owning this thing. Having smartphone and Spotify, apparently, this device type is already redundant solution, nevertheless I still like it.

Coming back to Sony E394. Unfortunately, I unimpressed with the sound quality, as expected magic and purer sound. My oldish Sandisc Sansa Clip plays the same track with the same headset literally better, deeper, and cleaner. I don't like Sony's feature to switch the device On by pressing at any button, even with switched Hold button. It often plays music in my pocket for itself and as result has completely drained battery.

I put "No" for all three questions about 'sound quality', 'easy usage' and 'battery life', but please read these as "average". Not really bad at all, but I expected more from the Sony product.

Sony is the best, as always...

Sony has earned my business for 50 years. It is the ONLY brand I consider when purchasing electronics.

Not once, have I ever had a problem with any product made by Sony. That includes radios, televisions, video recorders, stereo amplifiers, tape recorders, CD players, laptop or desktop computers. There must be others, but I can't think of any right now.

My televisions from college years, over three decades ago, still work even though the technology has evolved. My home computer is about 15 years old, used everyday, and it works like the day I bought it. My office computer is also Sony, and I couldn't be happier. If cared for properly, in my view Sony's don't break! Sure they can wear out over time, and obsolescence eventually hits, but they work day in and day out, year after year.

At times, I wish my TV would break down so I would have to buy a flat panel replacement.

The same quality is incorporated into this miniature MP3 player. I bought a spare to leave in my car. You can't go wrong with anything Sony makes, and it's as simple as that.

Replace SanDisk & Shuffle

I bought this player to replace a SanDisk player that just didn't make the grade. The SanDisk software was buggy and I constantly had to "reset" it to get it to work. I am also replacing an older iPod shuffle because I needed something that could hold more then 2GB of songs. I am able to load all the albums I have and haven't come close to filling the 8GB capacity. I use the Sony daily on runs and it has held up very well. The interface is easy to follow and I can even see it without wearing my glasses. The only recommendation I'd make is for Sony to add a clip so the Walkman can be clipped to your clothes. Other than that I am am very happy with this Sony product and would recommend it.Read full review...

Excellent product for the money!

Sony Walkman is a great product! This model has a great price of $60 but is without many of the "bells and whistles" of other Walkman models which sell for hundreds of dollars more. It has only 8GB of storage but this is more than enough for what we need it for.Read full review...

c. 2004 user interface

The UI is clunky and buggy; it often doesn't turn off when i hold the 'power' button, and when it boots up, it opens to random windows i had never been to before.

It's like Sony made this in 2004 and never bothered putting much energy into updating it.

I get it: the competition with cellphones is fierce, but if they're going to market this product, they could at least give it some TLC as a follow-up

very handy unit

I use this mostly when I'm riding my motorcycle and it works out great. Battery life is really good and the FM tuner works well and pulls in stations good. Just a nice little unit that allows me to either listen to my downloads or just the radio.Read full review...
