Great fun

Brings back memories, playing the PSP with my son's. I've always liked the compact design and excellent graphics. I know the world has moved on from the PSP but it's a nice gaming experience.

awesome

i'v only dealt play station [products my whole life so i can give accurate reviews on the quality of the PS series. it's easy to use and affordable. it wont break down on you like some products do and will weather very well in most conditions i am a heavy user and none of my PS consoles have every broken or stopped working one day due to damage or rough housing. one time my brother even sat on for about 10 minutes not realizing he was sitting on it! even after that it still worked without problem and still does. my psp is durable even though it is used. i protect my stuff cautiously so it can last years without replacing. right now all i can afford is a used one but even so it doesn't seem to perform like a used one it performs like new. and to preserve its performance i put it in a case. regardless, play-station is durable. im not undermining other consoles, there awesome to... i just had play-station products my whole life with a few Nintendo here and there.Read full review...

The PSP 3000, awesome portable gaming and media consumption on a budget!

The Sony PSP is an awesome system especially considering how dated the system is now. It has a big library of games and a lot of them have really good graphics for a portable. This sounds good all ready but when this system really shines is when you look at the prices you can get one for these days. If someone wants to get a PS Vita but does not have the money at the time, the PSP 3000 is a good system to hold you over until you can afford one. It is a pretty feature rich device for the price too, so you are not just limited to playing games on it. It also is an MP3 player so you can listen to music. If you want to watch videos it can also do that. It can display images if you want to look at pictures you have taken or you can save them from the internet. The PSP 3000 also has built in WiFi so you can browse the internet on the built in internet browser. The internet browser is admittedly limited and clunky to use and larger websites don't fully load because of the small amount of RAM I think. But it can be used for simple web surfing or if nothing else then saving images for wallpapers. The PSP 3000 also has a built in microphone so you can Skype on it which is pretty cool on a device like this. There is a camera attachment that you can plug into the top of the device so you can actually have a camera on this device. I play Japanese games on mine that I imported from Japan and they play flawlessly on here to non region locking. The PSP 3000's battery is pretty good I can get enough time out of it for average use. The PSP uses Memory Stick Duos to store data which work fine and are easy enough to find and there are adapters that can convert micro sd's to memory stick duo so you can use that. The PSP does use optical media so it can have the standard issues optical media has such as scratching, dust, and the mechanical parts can break from drops so you just have to be careful with it. Other than that it seems to be durable enough for everyday use. All in all given the features, usability, durability, and price I would say that this is a great deal if you can find one for cheap. I give the PSP 3000 two big thumbs up!Read full review...

Mostly awesome, but some annoying quirks.

I'll admit, I'm probably voicing my opinion a bit too soon. However, I've fiddled around with this quite a bit in that period, and for the most part, really like what I see.

From the beginning - the interface...it uses an interface that is basically the same as the PS3 (and, from what I've seen, all Sony Blu-Ray players). It's simple to navigate, allows for extensive customization, and looks really sharp.

It also has an internet browser which, once you get used to "typing" with one cursor, isn't half bad. It loads some pages outright, and other their mobile version. The difference, though - the screen is a lot bigger than my Blackberry, and a lot brighter. Hurrah! Additionally, once you're done with your internet, it shuts the wireless off, saving some of that precious battery juice.

I haven't really had the opportunity to check out the remote play function with the PS3, but look forward to that (and hooking up, via composite, the PSP to my television).

But, all of this is just fluff. To the point - the games.

It handles relatively well. It's not the most comfortable portable gaming system I've ever used, and the position of the left toggle doesn't really help. Playing while it's plugged in to the wall is also not simple. Once I found a comfortable position, however, it was relatively smooth sailing. I do like the comfort of the DS a bit more.

Also, it's loud. Annoyingly loud. "click, spin, click, spin". The problem with the media, I suppose. I can live with it, but I don't have to like it.

The media also leads to some load times that, while not unbearable, can be a bit annoying from time to time.

Those complaints aside, once the handling is figured out, it provides for a great experience. The graphics on the games can be really top notch, and the color and clarity of the screen is wonderful (and density allows for larger, more defined characters). I got mine with a protective case, which I would definitely recommend. Nintendo had it right on when they made the GBA and DS foldable. Even the PSP Go fails here, and it just seems too...fragile.

So, overall, a good piece of equipment. The game selection includes plenty of games that are not, and would not be able to be, supported by the DS. Factor in the internet connectivity, complete with browser (I don't know if the DSi has a browser), and I would say that the PSP is on par with the DS. They are two different machines, however, with different purposes and games. The new prices on the 3000 make it more affordable, and more or less worth it. Haven't downloaded and watched a movie yet, but I would venture a guess that the screen will provide a large enough, and clear enough, viewing area to enjoy, something the DS definitely lacks.

Good purchase, and I'm glad I made it!

The Best PSP to date? With a few exceptions...

Pros:
- Love the form factor that has been continued from the PSP-2000
- Light and super portable. Fits comfortably in my pockets
- Battery life is great, I've owned the original PSP and both roughly get the same amount of play time
- The screen is AMAZING! Crisp colors and brightness is superb.

Cons:
- The interlacing problem...
- Missing the matte back
- They moved the PS logo from the top right of PSP to the home button. This makes it look cheaper than the previous model
- UMD spinning is loud, I was at the MVD a couple days ago and I could hear it when it was in my lap. This has been a problem with all the PSP (PSP Go excluded)
- Limited number of titles, games have had a lack of ingenuity in the last few months.
- No bluetooth or wireless sync

Overall its a solid portable game system. I own a DSi as well, and I tend to play more classic titles on the PSP just cause its great to carry around and the screen is gorgeous. There is a whole bunch of other stuff you can do as well like play movies, music, radio, and even connect to the PS3 for some Gran Turismo action. For roughly $100, you're getting a awesome deal. The PSP just needs a better selection of games, then people might actually start buying UMDs again.

A great system for any fan of Sony games

The PSP is an amazing system for any gamer's collection. As the name suggests, it really is like carrying around a Playstation. There are three types you can get: 1000, 2000, 3000. The first is commonly referred to as the Phat, and the latter the Slim. They decrease in size through the line, and gain just a few features. For instance, the 3000 has skype. However, the 1000 is just as good for gaming. All three will give you pretty good bang for your buck, so it is entirely on personal preference which you get.
As far as the system goes; it is very bright, comfortable in my hand, and diverse. The battery life lives long. The only complaint is the weight; they are a pretty heavy handheld.
The game selection is fairly good, though more limited than, say, Nintendos.

Great gaming system! Excellent interface and price for this system!

This is one of many great handheld gaming systems on the market today. The system is sleek, slim, light weight and very easy to operate. As a gamer, these qualities in a handheld gaming system are very important to the user(including myself), this way it keeps the gamer "glued" to this system and that generates game sales to the company/companies who make game titles for this system. In my opinion, I give this system a 10 out of 10 for its ease of use and the many other features this system has to offer. I bought this system as an upgrade to my Sony PSP 2000 limited edition star wars ceramic white handheld system just because I wanted a new system and the price was fair. There really isn't much I can say about what I "dislike" about this product(maybe in the future a memory card won't be needed anymore). In my opinion this product is very different than the Nintendo systems just for the fact that the PSP is more versitile in certain areas such as game genres, internet access, etc. Anyone who wants a great quality, long lasting system should seriously invest in a Sony PSP system.

I am very pleased with the purchase

• Sony PSP 3000 is easy to handle, light weight allows you to play for a long time without difficulty. The button layout is well thought out and does not cause discomfort.
• Screen: contrast and bright, with a good display of flowers, but to "excellent" still falls short. The display is great for watching videos.
• The sound from the portable system should not expect much, but two small built-in speakers do their jobs with enthusiasm. In headphones the sound is much better quality can be compared with the sound of the average cost of mp3-player.
• Battery life: depends on what level of the backlight and volume of sound you play. In the case of games of the time hardly be more than 5 hours. Graphics for the portable system is excellent, but at the level of PS2 graphics do not look. In addition to their own games, consoles have the ability to run games from the first PlayStation (PSOne)
• Video: prefix understand video format H.264/AVC/MPEG-4. It also has wheels for PSP UMD-video, easy to use built-in player, you can watch a movie on the episodes, scaling video, and other nice utility.
• Music: The player supports formats MP3, ATRAC3 (ATRAC3 and +), MPEG-4 AAC, WMA (requires activation via the Internet Communications: built-in PSP Wi-Fi module) through which communication is carried out and the boxes with the "outside world". In the presence of a simple web browser, RSS-reader, the ability to listen to Internet radio, and internet dialer Skype (for which will have to buy a headset without chat is only available in the PSP 3000 has a built-in microphone, which eliminates the need to purchase a headset). The attachment supports USB 2.0 and is equipped with a mini-USB connector.
• I am very pleased with the purchase.

Experience the game of basket ball like never before!

ony PSP 3000 Black Console
Just like the Playstation 3, the PSP (Playstation Portable) has seen its share of hardware upgrades. The PSP 3000 is the third in the line of PSPs. Before I go further, if you already own a PSP 2000 or the original model, you may as well stick with it. The PSP 3000 offers minor technical improvements, but nothing worth putting another $130 into a system you already own.

If you’re new to the PSP, the best way to describe it is as a portable Playstation 2 (PS2). Many titles on the PSP look and play comparable to the PS2. With a TV adaptor, the PSP becomes an easier way to carry last generation quality where ever you go.

So, why get a PSP?
The PSP is the complete portable multimedia device. It plays back MP3, WMA, WAV, and a few other audio codecs. Your PSP can double as a music player while you’re on the go. Just load it up and take it on the road. If you like movies, the PSP supports MPeg4 and AvC codecs. I will say that it is not easy converting your movies in to a PSP format; however, it is easy to find freeware that will do it for you. With the new camera peripheral, the PSP can also take pictures. I do not recommend using this in place of a digital camera because the quality turns out similar to most cell phones. Sony added a web browser to the PSP to allow users to surf the internet when near a Wi-Fi hotspot. I have used the web browser enough to say that I prefer surfing the web with a touch screen device over navigating with the PSP’s analog stick.

Besides the content you can load on your PSP, Sony phased our their UMD (Universal Media Disc) movies. The original PSP boasted the UMD movie format as a premier portable option for video. Due to low sales, the UMD videos were discontinued. Sony now offers video content through the PSN(Playstation Network). Full length movies go for $14.99 while episodes of a TV show run $1.99 to $3.99. Downloadable video content is rendered in 720x480. The PSP’s resolution of 480x272 displays video content rather well. The videos are playable both on your PS3 and PSP which is a plus, but at 1.5GB per movie, an 8GB memory card will fill up rather quick.

Comic book fans can download the latest issues of their favorites on the PSN for $1.99 each. This feature was wasted on me, as I found the interface to be clumsy. To view a comic, you use the analog stick to navigate around what seemed to be a PDF image. I have not purchased any comics from PSN, but a few free downloads are out there. If Sony had offered the comics in more of a slide show fashion, this feature would have been more useful.

I doubt most people will purchase a PSP for the media center or comic book features, but more for the games. The PSP’s library is steadily growing. There are three types of PSP titles: the PSP Games, Minis, and PSOne games. PSP games are designed specifically for the PSP. Some PSP exclusive titles include Final Fantasy Dissidia, Fate Unlimited Codes, and Invizimals. Most of the PSP titles are revised versions of existing franchises like Army of Two: 40th Day, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny. The benefit to PS3 owners is that most minis and all PSOne titles can be played on the PSP. This significantly increases the number of titles that can be played on a PSP. Classic PSOne titles available include the Resident Evil and Tekken
