Mostly good

The PlayStation was in good condition and works great. The. Only problem is that the wall plugin does not fit the adapter. Luckily, I had another near bad. Other than that, great product.

Good product

Happy to be able to play my games again! System is in good shape and function good. Not sure of what the "rattle: was I heard when moving the system around. Sounds as thought something is lose or broken inside. Unsure about using the controller as it is not a Sony controller so I'm not sure if it works or not. That's how my other console was damaged by using a non Sony controller in the 1st controller port. Overall - a good purchase! Thank you!Read full review...

Happy with the purchase

I purchased this console to play a vintage PS2 game. The game system works well. It is plugged into an older TV with no problems. Games and memory cards are available cheaply. So glad I made this investment as some of the older games (based on past kid movies) are of more interest to my 11 year old.

Package came early and in very good working condition. No visible damage. Worked right out of the box.

Still the Greatest Console

Over 3K games (including at least 100 of the best ever made), Graphics still good,
Can play backup and import games w/ swap magic and minimal modification (unlike PS3),
Only about 50 USD total to replace w/ a used one in great condition (they do break after about 2 years of heavy use)
Easy to take w/ you (size of small paper back),
Can overheat after prolonged use (stand/ lean vertically or use laptop cooler pad,
Get component cable if you have an HDTV (significantly sharper and better colors/contrast,
Get a 128mb mem card if you have a lot of games (use as backup card; much slower than 8mb cards),
Sony's official controllers are by far the most reliable (generics tend to jam)

Expansive game selection, but systems are faulty.

The PlayStation 2 fats always had trouble reading discs after so many uses. The slims constantly have different parts shorting out in them. First one I bought was a fat and it quit working from playing movies. While it was supposed to be designed to play movies, it'll actually ruin the laser over time. You can adjust a dial inside that'll temporarily fix the reading problem, but it only saves the laser for a few extra months. The next three I bought were all slims. First one died completely. On the second one, it shorted out so the games kept glitching and freezing. Installing a new laser lens wouldn't fix the problem. On the third one, the power supply shorted out. Another thing with these systems, is that they need taken apart and cleaned every 2 to 3 years. YouTube tutorials are helpful on how to do this safely and carefully.

That's the problem with Sony. While they always have the best game selection, their systems are total junk. Still worth it, but be prepared to have to buy more in the future or start out with a bulk pile of them. Super Nintendo is still the best in terms of durability. It takes cartridges though, so that's another topic.

This system isn't for people that prefer graphics over gameplay.

I bought the PS2 because of the games it has. The fact that it can play PS1 games is a nice feature as well. This system isn't for people that only care about graphics, since it's pretty bad. Compared to the newer systems, it doesn't compare. Compared to the GameCube, it may rival it but I think the GameCube has some things over the PS2.Read full review...

Back to the Future

Going from new systems back to the old. Less fuss with the hype of the new ones. Still has good graphics and always fun to replay the old games. Over all it's still a good value for entertainment and price conscious.Read full review...

Not for all tvs

I have a fat ps2 as well. I bougjt the slim one for a different locale. I had an older SONY tv and component cables and I encountered this blinking problem where the screen went black and then come back after a second or two completely random with no rhythm. I almost returned it to the person that I bought it from until I found that the slim worked perfectly on certain TVs. But not a Sony TV. Its definitely a crapshoot. Im not impressed.Read full review...
