Sony SAL18135/3.5-5.6 is a gem!

Like many of Sony's in house SAL optics, this upper end consumer kit offering offers a lot of bang for the buck. My used sample was pristine and shoots beautiful images. AF is very quiet, zoom and manual focus are very smooth. The auto switching for AF to manual is a feature every lens should have. Build quality is as good as plastic can be which is essentially fragile in nature but adequate for consumer use with any care shown to it.

Light weight, fairly compact and a competent performer in capturing images, this zoom is a cut above many models in IQ. Good center focus wide open with softish corners, the SAL18135 shapes up quickly once you start stopping down. Very good IQ throughout the focal range - not common on many zooms. Using f4/5.6 through f16 will produce great images. Diffraction comes into play around f11-16 and ruins images using the smallest apertures.

All in all, buying this item on eBay for half the retail price, I scored a mint sample of a current product - shipped from Japan, where Sony builds their better optics. Read full review...

Focus ring not working properly

Will not work in full AF , so for my use shooting action not a lot of time to get the sharp fucus that I need my 18x200 is a better option & about the same weight, however it will be a very good portrait lens.Read full review...

Optical zoom flexibility

Sony DT 18-135mm

I received this lens in just a few days from Japan. Condition was just as described - MINT. I have only used it to take a group of test photos, but the operation and photographic results are very good and just what I was looking for. Great all around lens!

LOVE this lens! It's perfect for when I don't want to carry extra lenses. I can get landscape shots as well as closeup ones. I shoot a lot of races, and this is perfect to get a shot of the crowd, then go straight to a runner's face. Best lens for the money

I bought one of this lens for my brother for his new a65 and after trying it out, I decided to get one for myself. It is very quite (relatively) in autofocus and I love that I can do direct manual focus without moving any switch.
I haven't done any extensive test on it but from what I can see with my naked eyes, it is far better than the 16-105mm I had before.Read full review...

Quiet and quick focus

I replaced my 35-90mm lens that seemed to have stripped gears. When I first tried this new lens I thought it was not working since I did not hear it working. When I looked through the viewfinder I saw it was working and it seems to focus quicker and very quiet.
