Super

The FE 50 1.8 gets a lot of flack for poor focus speed but really it's not bad. I actually like, no, prefer the way it focuses for video, it's very sure but not overly quick, kind of like Canon dpaf. It works great on both the a6000 and a7. Some CA wide open but that is to be expected for a fast prime with no special glass elements but easily correctable in post. It is a modern prime that has an old school look in the photos, reminds me of the minoltas I shoot, it has character. I like it and it is always on a camera ready for action. Read full review...

good value for 50 mm f1.8.

I used this lens to shoot at SFO bay bridge. its ok but not the sharpest. I used it with Sony A7ii on a tripod taking the bay bridge and part of the city. Not happy on the result.... I did another shot of the new Bay Bridge using again the 50 mm and the Nikon 85 mm w/ adapter on A7ii to have a comparison. the 50 mm is not sharp as Nikon 85 mm. Focusing a little slow too... I'll give a try again some other day and I"ll post an update. thanksRead full review...

Nice PRime lens.

It's cheap, produce nice deep of field, at f4 it's pretty sharp. I used it all the time it's my favorite lens, cons: a little noisy focus motor, not very fast auto focus, some color aberrations very little, some light flares. But even so 5 star non of them dealer breakers. It is also very light. Don't miss this offer open box with Best Buy 169.99Read full review...

Great Lens, Great price!

Although I'm not a huge fan of the plastic body, the lens feels solid and takes nice pictures. Despite being a full frame lens, this is really a great match for my APSC cameras. The SONY autofocus works great with my ZV-E10 and A6700.Read full review...

Excellent for the price

This lens is excellent for the price. It's only draw back is the auto focus, while good, is slow and needs to search back and forth too often to find focus. But for the price, I feel it is a great lens as this would really only be an issue for a pro, or someone needing to shoot a lot of shots quickly. Also, if you carry it around on auto-focus for long times between shots, it will drain your battery quickly as it will constantly be running the motor searching for focus.Read full review...

Excellent performance

This is by far my sharpest lens, the first that can show off what the A7R2 is capable of! It's also reasonably small and light, unlike the f1.4 50's from Sony, Zeiss, Sigma. It goes very well with the small mirrorless cameras. That said, the light weight comes with a plasticy feel, very unlike the A7R and suggestive of cheap construction. With modern plastics, that may not be true but time will tell. Very happy!!!!Read full review...

"nifty fifty"

I know the nifty fifty has its ups and downs, but for the money, it's good to go with expectations that it's not going to equal a G Master or Zeiss. I've shot portraits, landscape, and a bunch of other shots just to get a feel of how it works. I'm quite pleased with it. It's reasonably sharp and fast for focusing. Read full review...

Great value.

Used with the a7ii. Sonys own FE options tend to the pricier, but this is one of their few super affordable lenses, even brand new.

It's plenty sharp enough, focuses fast and quiet. Well balanced on the camera, not too small or too large. Update the firmware as it provided me with a noticeable boost to AF Speed.

There are sharper, faster, longer, etc. But they will cost you. It's hard to find any serious faults with this lens considering its price point.

Best Portrait Lens For the Money! The Performance of Lenses 5 Times The Price.

In looking for a dedicated "portrait lens" I did a lot of research. In the end
I bought the Sony SEL 50mm f/1.8(SEL50F18F) for its full frame capability
and its bargain basement price. The lens has not disappointed. Crystal
clear details, great bokeh, just stunning pictures. Its easy to spend a lot
on a great lens. With this model you can spend a little and get a lot of performance.

A lens with depth!

First off I've been concerned about this lens because it gets a lot of bad reviews. However watched a video about a firmware v3. So matched the model number, got it, and was not disappointed!

The 1.8f really draws in a lot of light so night pictures/dark room shots really come out nice and clean, especially with the a7iii! 50mm is perfect with portraits and surprisingly macro photography. Was very surprised with how well the depth works along with the manual focus. I am definitely keeping this lens attached all the time. The photos come out so epic!

As a film lens it also works really well. Images are super clear, af is amazing, and rack focus really moves smoothly! Really outstanding depth and the bocah is pretty rad. Bravo! Exceeded my expectations for the cost. A 1.4f might work better, but this one is a dream!
