Almost perfect

The product is really good, I like it. However, it has some minor details like needing a shoe mount for any standar microphone of flash, the turn on/off button is a little bit weird, it records with a hiss sound and mic does not have onedirection mode setting. But, all of these disadvantages are nothing compared with the great performance of this camera. This is a great camera. I now own 3 of these cameras. I do video projects on the side, and I am very happy with this camera. I have placed the VCL-HG0737C Wide conversion lens on each of the cameras. I also have a VCL-HG1737C Telephoto lens (little to no, vignette). I also have VCL-R2037 telephoto lens (noticable, vignette).

The camera takes great photos as well. You are even able to take photos while videoing (takes several seconds to process). If you are wanting to take several shots in rapid session, this is not possible in this mode.

I would also like to mention that once a lens is attached the camera's flash will not work. I had to purchase an external flash to solve this problem (Sony HVL-HFL1). It is ashame Sony no longer makes this model...Read full review...

Excellent camcorder but missing some of the important features

Great little camera. I am a pro videographer and use this camera as a "second" camera for candid side, back, close shots. I love how easy is is to transfer the video into the computer using the Sony software. My only disappointments: 1) There is no LAN jack so I can't use the tripod handle controls, 2) To adjust white balance while shooting, you have to go into the the menu screen and click through to that control . . . which means you have to press the face of the viewscreen which causes camera shake. Also, maybe I just haven't find the command yet, but I don't seem to find a control for overcoming washout due to stage lighting.

Bought this to upgrade my capability for making music videos
in our recording studio (Henderson Mountain Recording Studio)
here in the Ozark Mountains. We like being able to connect to
our audio/video CPU through the USB and connect to the hard
drive of the camera. The images are sharp, crystal clear and
no blur whatsoever. We intend to buy 2 more for different
angle shots to add more interest to the music video. Would highly recommend this model to anyone. Glad we found it on

Bought this camera several years ago then I sold it and bought Canon last year and used first time this year thought I bought a winner nope a looooooser so I went on EBAY to find another SR12 it was a blessing to find it.
