Good sound and price, but very difficult to navigate

I bought the Sony STR DG500 because I have owned several Sony receivers over the years and have found them to be durable, easy to use and sound great. The DG500 is the exception to the rule. It sounds very good IF you can get it set-up the way you like it. The menus are VERY difficult to navigate and the instruction manual is little to no help. In fact is is TERRIBLE! It keeps referring the user to different pages in an endless loop just like the receiver. If it were not for the auto microphone calibration most people would be SOL. If you prefer say, the center channel to have more volume, good luck. If you are not very tech savy and have alot of time and patience, I would look elsewhere. Great receiver for the price!

The price point and the features were why I decided to buy this product. I didn't need HDMI, but I did need two HD component inputs with one component output. I really liked the fact that the component inputs were assignable and re-nameable. I am currently running an XBOX (with HD DVD) and a HD cable box. Another feature I like is the microphone autocalibration. Just plug in the provided microphone and press auto-cal on the remote. It is done and perfect in about 5 minutes. You have the option of manually setting the volumes and distances to fine tune any settings, but I haven't needed to. The receiver works just fine. No defects. I have another receiver just like this and I love it.

However, there were no antennae included in this most recent purchase, and although I have written the seller several times, and he has sworn he'll send them to me, I still have no antennae. I can't find AM/FM antennae for this unit, so this will be used for other purposes.Read full review...
