Good Mid-tier Tablet Hybrid Game System

This is a concept hybrid (cellphone, tablet, game system) device that has made it to the market in the U.S. This type of consumer electronic does well in Asian markets like Japan and Korea but not so well in the U.S. Sony does this type of thing quite a lot. It is a cellphone running Android that also doubles as a Sony (PlayStation type) game system and tablet computer. The dual touch screens are a nice feature but the break in the screen can become annoying. It has a propriety Sony Memory Stick Duo slot but also has a standard MicroSD slot which is a plus. I've added a generic 128GB MicroSD and have had no problems. This is a great toy if you want to mod, hack or root the device. The used price is getting quite cheap at under $150. It's a shame that there wasn't more support for this device (like good Sony PSP game downloads or I would have given it another star.Read full review...

This tablet certainly is an odd one!

This tablet is old and runs android 3.0. I did try my hardest to get it to 4.0 even by rooting the tablet but sadly it just won’t accept any Roms I throw at it but besides being stuck on an outdated os it’s not entirely a bad experience.

This device at the time it came out was pretty good. I did try some older games and it does handle them okay. It gets the job done.

Web browsing is a little slow but remember this thing isn’t any form of a modern tablet but it will load up YouTube videos and play them just fine. Actually this is where I think it’s a little under rated. Being able to set it on a table and adjust the screen angle to a point where I can sroll and have exactly what I need on one display is very convenient. The bezels on the side are off putting but I have big hands so it doesnt bother me.

The camera is... not good. But at the time it was okay but compared to today’s mobile cameras it doesn’t stand a chance.

The battery life is meh at best. It doesn’t really have decent power management but with a removable battery it’s not bad having swap batteries as companies still make them for this device.

The cell radios don’t seem to ever get a signal even with an att sim card installed. Maybe they shut down the network for it I’m not sure but with WiFi who needs that anyways.

GPS works fairly okay. You don’t need cellular to use gps with android but for as old as it is it gets the job done. A little choppy on the maps but does handle okay.

Sound quality is also bad. I know Sony had to make some sacrifices on this thing but if your looking for booming sound this tablet doesn’t have it. It’s good if your in a quiet room but for whatever reason that tablet isn’t very loud at all.

Overall I did find this thing pretty fun to play with. I learned what i could from it but I am still looking for a 4.0 rom for this as if I could get it updated then it would be some much more usable since Sony made a lot of Improvements to the software on it!

Overall I’d give this device 7.5/10.

avoid buying, I like the idea and the brand but Sony has way to go to catch

Bad design and very poor integration with the software. Google pay will not replace market and the two will have a major conflict. Also took much plastic surrounding the screens.
