Lightweight with great noise cancellation

The earbuds are absolutely amazing. I work next to a processor cooling fan which makes so much noise. I have tried many different noise cancellation solutions, with some noise always creeping in. With these earbuds, its absolute silence. I have tried both NC on & off. The difference is tell tale. It even muffles the chatter of my colleagues around me. Not to mention other great features like good base, mid & high, multiple devices, DSEE/Equilizer (which I dont use much) etc. Since I bought refurbished, ebay has provided with 2 year warrenty. So I am not too much worried about battery(which I think doesnt last as long as promised by the product spec) Overall, I absolutely love these.Read full review...

Can't hear them. Like if my neighbor had their radio on at low volume.

They could have the best sound ever output by any device ever... they could sound like God whispering sweet nothings in your ear... BUT THEY ARE USELESS IF YOU CAN'T ACTUALLY HEAR ANY OF THAT.
I had read so many good things about these buds that I was super excited to get a pair at the reduced refurbished price and jumped on it. Imagine my disappointment when I received them and discovered that no amount of tinkering or adjustments through multiple apps and media players, scouring of the internet for the setting or trick that I was stupidly missing that could turn the sound on, would actually make these things audible outside of an underground, sound-proofed, vacuum chamber. Well, I never found any. They'll sit unused until I can work up the strength to throw that $160 in the trash. I don't know why people review these positively. If there is ANY ambient sound (like my dog's non-snoring breathing while sleeping) , it drowns out whatever these buds are playing, regardless of the noise canceling setting. And I'm talking with them pinned in the red. Turnt to ELEVEN. I don't have a problem with ANY OTHER EARBUDS AT ALL, be they $20, $150, free LGs that came with my TV... doesn't matter, all 4 of my other BT earbuds work fine as far as volume goes. Most don't even have ANC, but they don't need it since you can actually hear them at a normal volume setting even in an outdoor city street environment during rush hour. This includes a set of Sony's own WF-C500 buds. They kinda sound like they're in coffee cans, but at least I can hear them. My personal favorites are Samsungs Galaxy Buds Live which somehow manage to simulate bass you can feel in your legs while being the size of a kidney bean. They can be as loud or quiet as you want them, and you can probably get them for <$I00 right now.

I don't know if mine were defective, or they weren't refurbished properly, or other people only use these in their sensory deprivation tanks they have at home, but I HATE these earbuds! Even if only because all of the hype around them got me excited to get my hands on them, only to find that I might as well stick skittles in my ears for the same experience these provide. Seriously, if I'm outside with these, they might as well be turned off. ANC does absolutely nothing as far as I can tell. I would've thought they were DOA if I'd never tried them in a quiet room. I really wish they'd work, because the features they offer are fantastic... or, at least I imagine they would be fantastic when combined with earbuds that output sound.

Great earbuds that take a little while to get used to. Android app is a mixed bag.

These are awesome earbuds. The noise-canceling is top notch. The charging case is about as small as it can be given the shape of the earbuds. I haven't done any measurements, but the battery life seems good. The WF-1000XM4's have a pretty clear sound during all three modes: noise canceling, ambient sound, and off (sound processing off, so they operate like non-noise canceling headphones).

The only downside is that it took a few days for my ears to really get used to them. They were really uncomfortable on day one and got better day by day thereafter. For me, this is down to the foam ear tips. Swapping on rubber eartips from other Sony earbuds alleviates the issue immediately but don't offer the same noise isolation or ability to stay in your ears when moving around, so I just acclimated to the foam. For something I plan to use for years, this isn't a huge deal but if you're buying them and hoping to use them on a long flight, give yourself some time to get used to them beforehand.

I use them with my Samsung Galaxy S21. The signal is strong, even through a few rooms. The WF-1000XM4's require the use of Sony's Headphones app which has some good features but isn't completely seemless. I like the ability to change EQ, assign gestures, and set the behavior of the headphones when they are removed from the case and my ears, but sometimes the audio sources don't swap correctly (ie, between YouTube Music and Twitter). Additionally, the play controls for different apps don't seem to show up in my notifications menu anymore which is annoying.

Overall, the hardware is awesome (if initially a little uncomfortable) but the software experience isn't 100% seemless. It's not a big deal to me, so I'd recommend them to anyone who is a little tech savvy.

Worth it

I had originally bought product from Best Buy, but unfortunately, it was stolen from me. After that, I decided to rely on eBay for a refurbished product. I had some doubts, but they all disappeared after receiving and using them. At first some connectivity issues, but after a reset, they worked as my old ones did. I see no reason to go to a retailer and buy a full price product if a refurbished product will function identically. I would highly recommend. Read full review...

Great quality and sound poor fit.

Great product for the features and really good sound quality for a TWS. ANC is truly magical and will let you focus just on your music and not have to crank the volume to get rid of the outside noise. No Multi-point but minor annoyance compared to the full sized sibling. If your ears on the smaller side like mine you won't find these comfortable however even with the smallest tips. Read full review...

The best in ear buds I've ever used.

The first thing I noticed was the aesthetics of the product. It screams premium. It feels good and looks good. You have to use the Sony Headphones app to get the most out of it, but it definitely helps.
The default sound signature needs work but the app gives you the option to customize the EQ or use EQ presets which are okay. The sound is the best I have ever heard (once altered from the default) that I've ever heard from an ear bud unassisted.
The ambient mode uses the built-in mics of the ear phones to pull in outside noise or sounds so you can still hear your surroundings and be aware of them. It also has a beat feature where, if turned on, pauses whatever you're listening to when you talk. It assumes you're talking to someone and pauses everything and turns on ambient mode so you can communicate clearly.
The main selling point of these ear buds, however, is the active noise cancellation... Bar none, it is the best noise cancellation in any ear bud right now, as of June 2022.
The immediate issue I had with them is to pair them, maybe the documentation wasn't included with the copy I bought, but I had to watch a video on YouTube to be educated on how to do that. The earphones also don't play well with other EQs, which is a shame. Lastly, the fit is a bit hard for me to initially adjust to. There's not wrong with the earphones, I've just been using silicone ear tips for years, so I had some issues conforming to the foam ear tips that these ship with.
Regardless of the shortcomings, I love these. For what they are, they are amazing. I would recommend to everyone.

These are really great earbuds

These are really great earbuds. The problem, like most earbuds is they receive signal via Bluetooth. I love really clean sound, the type you get from a great stereo system and cd or album. That is great sound. I betting these are great earbuds, reviewed as the best, but their Achilles Heel is lack of quality signal coming in. Blue tooth just doesn’t produce really hi quality sound.
They don’t compare well with my Bose wired headphones

Overall great earbuds

These sound great. Good clarity across the spectrum and nice bass response in particular. The noise canceling is excellent. I really being able to control playback by tapping the sides. I use them most of the day and the batteries last on a single charge. I don’t usually use any of the adaptive features based on location or ambient sound because I found they tended to take away from my experience with them rather than augmenting it. There are not many negatives, but there are a couple. The stock tips were not comfortable enough for me to wear most of the day without irritation. I was having to take them out just to give my ears a break. I ended up accidentally tearing one of the tips and replaced it with an aftermarket tip that is more comfortable than the original. Also people occasionally have difficulty understanding me on phone calls, but most of the time I don’t have that problem. The earbuds and case came in great condition and have worked perfectly for months now. Overall I love these things and have no regrets. If I could give 4.5 stars I would, but I feel ok rounding up to 5.Read full review...

Refurbished Sony Earbuds Diminished Battery Life

These Sony XM 4 earbuds are a great value, and of course, there sometimes is a bit of a tradeoff when you save money by getting refurbished ones. In this case everything works great, the sound quality is what it should be, it connected to the internet to use the Sony app, etc. The earbuds on a single charge should last 8 hours. These last 4 hours only. That being said, the case works as promised, and recharges them quickly. The battery in the earbuds themselves seems to be old and is diminishing bit by bit with each passing moment of time. C'est la vie! Read full review...
