Better than the XBox

The new Xbox might beat the PS4 Pro in specs, but it just doesn’t have the exclusives that PlayStation has. I enjoy both systems, and have owned XBox products since the original, but have already enjoyed the PS4 more. I’m definitely sticking with PlayStation systems for a while; I’m a happy customer.Read full review...

Good unit, good value overall

PS4 arrived well packaged and worked out of the box. However, after about a week I would randomly get system crashes and/or a warning that the system was shutting down due to excessive heat. On researching, this appears to be a common problem with PS4s after a time as the intake and exhaust vents and the system fan will become clogged with dust. Required disassembling the entire unit all the way down to the mainboard to clean the fan, heatsink and the vents. No small task as this could result in an non-functioning PS4 if not done properly. Thankfully, I'm fairly comfortable with this process (and excellent guides how to do this online); just need to take your time and make sure all parts and screws are accounted for. I do not fault the seller for this, as cleaning each and every PS4 is no small task.

After cleaning the PS4 thoroughly and excising all the dust from inside, it works great now.

Great Product

I got this in preparation for Horizon Zero Dawn. After seeing the improvments made to Last of Us for the PS4 Pro, I am very satisfied with this hardware. Watching Netflix in 4K + HDR is also nice, I hope Planet Earth 2 makes it to a streaming service in this format soon.Read full review...

They really have you

The PS4, Playstation 4, has the best graphics to date. Mind blowing, ultra-realistic graphics. The console is very quiet and the 1 TB drive is unbelievably responsive and efficient. However, the whole idea of gaming now with the PS4 is that of commerciality, or perpetual purchases. On the older systems, the PS1 and PS2, for example, when you bought a game, all of the features were on the disc, although some of them may have been locked. The way it works now is they practically give you the game for a token payment. When you set up your playstation account, then they have you. Now you have to buy "extras" for the game online, and in many cases you have to be online to play your game, so Sony is always watching you. Instead of a complete game for $49, for example, you pay $29 for the initial game, but to get all the bonuses, extras and "easter eggs" you might have to pay up to $500 or more, $1.49 or $2.99 at a time. It really is marketing genius.

Once I realized how it works now, then I immediately sold my system and regressed back to the PS2, the best game platform ever made--a contradiction to my earlier statement. I say this because with the older systems you are safe, off the grid, and Sony or Big Brother cannot see you or track what you are doing. I like it better this way. Safer. Cleaner. More secure. Cozy and safe, away from watchful eyes and hacks that could somehow break into your account and steal your financial data making you a target for identity thieves who could easily steal your bank account information. That's the way the PS4, and soon-to-be-released PS5 systems work now--everything is done online, and very little of it now is done off the grid, away from the mainframe and spying corporate eyes who are going to milk you for every dollar. I hope this information helps you, too, avoid potential financial problems and being a victim of profiteering pricing.

Powerful console, but with one flaw.

The console itself is pleasing to look at, and the Pro no longer has that annoying blue light across its body like the original PS4 had. Its been replaced by a more subtle lighter blue 'bar' on the front. Everything works just like the original PS4 for the most part, from the connections to the software. It does boast more power from the hardware so games can take advantage of this if the developers added any special enhancements to the visuals or resolution in their games.

I marked the "Is it a good value?" as 'No'. You may wonder why. Well it's due to one flaw; the hard drive performance. Yes its a 1TB, which is plenty of room to stuff most games with DLC on without worry. But the speed at which it performs is very.. non-Pro. A whopping 5400 rpm HDD. Really, Sony? A quick Google search allows you to see that, for pretty cheap I might add, you can easily replace the stock HDD with a MUCH better performing storage device. It holds the PS4 Pro back from being a really great performing console too, e.g. loading a map in multiplayer while playing Battlefield 1 takes a ridiculous amount of time, and when you leave a server? I find myself exiting the game (via Close Application) completely and reloading it to get to the main menu, as it is actually faster than what the game can Exit a match. That's not an exaggeration either sadly.

Needless to say I will be replacing it with a better HDD, but for a $400+ price tag, that shouldn't have to be something the consumer needs to do to allow the PS4 Pro to take advantage of its hardwares capabilities to the fullest. I also docked a star for this reason. Overall I don't regret getting it, but it does sadden me that I have to shell out more money to allow this console to shine as it should from the get go.

Ps4 Pro..you want better, here it is!

The ps4 pro has some good upgrades! It's capable of running certain games at a higher resolution but do not get confused this does not have a 4k blu ray disc player so of that's what your expecting go ahead and get your hopes down a bit. However, it leaves it all in the publishers hands with how they implement 4k visuals in their games. Besides that the system is improved when it comes to Internal specs! It is much faster than the original ps4 and runs all of your apps much more smoothly! Shout out to antonline they have a great deal on the ps4 pro bundle with an extra dualshock 4 controller for only $419 so get it while it lasts! Read full review...
