A family movie you'll watch again and again. PG rated for the shark attack.

Whether you're a Christian or not, this story about Bethany Hamilton will inspire as well as entertain. Thirteen years old at the time a Tiger Shark bit off her left arm, she was a newly sponsored competitive surfer. (Currently ranked #42 in the world of women's professional surfing)
Although she instantly knew what had just occurred, it her calm behavior that initially saved her life, having lost over 60% of her blood. She credits Jesus Christ for saving her life.
This movie, with the exception or the frightening shark attack scene, is definitely a family oriented movie. (Cover the little ones' eyes for the split-second attack)
Bethany defies all logic, and some physics, to reconstruct not only her life, but her surfing. It's her determination and will which turns her back into the pro she was meant to be.
The movie is not a Bible-thumper, but the message of Christ in her life is clear.
The bonus materials in the special features are remarkable and almost as good as the picture itself. The stunt-surfing in the movie itself is done by Bethany herself.
The message is clear without sap. With the love of God, family and community, along with a winner's spirit, anything is possible. Again, this movie isn't sappy or heavy-handed. She does have a crisis of faith, but after a mission trip to Taiwan post tsunami, meeting the survivors who'd lost everything and getting people past their fear of the water, she gains a healthy perspective of her situation. This is truly an inspirational movie !!!!

Soul Surfer will give any age viewer an honest look of youth at its best. Bethany Hamilton's story of loosing her arm while surfing was world news, then a book, and now done in film form. It's an amazing story of one girl, her family, her friends, her church, and what can be accomplished not only through recovery but a continuing life of giving others an outlook of HOPE. She is one remarkable girl, a must-see film. I'm from the Islands, and the scenes made me homesick. Beautiful scenes, must see !!!

Regardless of faith preference, Bethany has to give others with similar struggles a leap in optimism. For those who have been fortunate to never before dealt with a life/death episode; this can give you a taste of what it is like. This child looked to her faith.

True and inspiring

excellent movie that really hits home about not giving up. The courage of this girl in incredible. To get back into the water after her encounter with a huge shark and losing an arm is the type of stuff you don't hear every day. The surfing scenes are breathtaking as well as the scenery.
