One of the first "Original Cast" albums for Broadway ("soundtracks" are in movies, not theatre) to be released in the late 1940s, "South Pacific" presents Rogers & Hammerstein's most pertinent and moving musical play, a Pulitizer Prize winner, that not only celebrates the Allied victory in WWII but also decries racial prejudice in all societies. And, of course, the performances are not to be forgotten-- the great operatic basso Ezio PInza, the Broadway leading lady of the era, Mary Martin, comic genius Myron McCormack, African-American powerhouse Juanita Hall as "Bloody Mary" and the brilliant young baritone William Tabbert as the tragic Lieutenant Cable who sings one of the most important songs written for an American musical, "You've Got To Be Taught" -- a potent condemnation of racial prejucice. A Classic, Often duplicated but never equaled

You can forget what a legit Broadway musical is supposed to sound like these days. Well, if you want to know how the classic shows were done, pick up this cd. It's the original and has all the vitatality that a newborn show is supposed to have. Please remember that Richard Rodgers was a perfectionist about his music. He would not allow any fooling around with his creations. The point is this cd present "SouthPacific" how it is supposed to be done. The cast is simply peerless. Please enjoy.Read full review...

I was excited to find this on CD! I grew up listening to this music on vinyl. I have a worn out copy and a "new" copy I was afraid to play. Now I can play it whenever I want! Some CD's remastered don't sound good at all. That is not the case here - it is terrific.Read full review...

South Pacific-CD Original Cast

We saw the play and enjoyed the songs. We thought it would sound even better with the remastered CD and it did.

I loved the music: it was nice to have original cast.

The songs were excellent, and the singers were well known and terrific. The music is truly excellent.

Puts a Smile on My Face!

I LOVE this CD. The beautiful music, voices and lyrics enable me to see the performance in my "mind's eye". Just a wonderful story to experience.
