THE MUST HAVE for ANY Spongebob Fan

Ok, I am a die-hard Spongebob fan. If it's possible to wear out a DVD, it will happen with these. I have never been happier with a purchase. It's great, it has all the 1st season episodes. The extras on the 3rd DVD are worth the purchase price just by themselves. The extras include the creation of Spongebob, first season recollections from the crew and a really priceless special on the VOICES of Spongebob. Seeing the voice-over work being done by the actual people was awesome and hilarious. Both kids AND adults will love the extras. I won't spoil it, but think about the very first spongebob episodes, such as when Spongebob first meets Sandy and compare that to the most recent one. See any difference? That's the point!! it's basically impossible to tell apart epsiodes that are years apart, that's just how much effort and work went into getting the show right from the very start. Do the same with South Park or Simpsons episodes and the differences are like night and day. The extra on the creation of Spongebob is priceless and explains why you can't tell the difference between old and new episodes.

Other extras are some great Karaoke videos so you can learn some of the songs like the theme and the FUN song, etc.

DISC 2 is special because it includes the almost-never-seen epsiodes that ONLY come out at Halloween - Scaredy Pants and I Was a Teenage Gary.

Knowing what I know now about this First Season set, I would have paid double the actual retail price. You should be able to get it for less than $20 delivered and I can't recommend it highly enoughRead full review...

Awesome

I am a classically educated (very critical) animator with a great distaste for most western mainstream animation, because of their idiotic assumption that animation is for kids only, and for really stupid and slow kids at that.
The narrative is always secondary and inferior, not to mention predictable from the 1st frame to the sickeningly sweet end when something can usually be solved by singing a song.
As such, the likes of Ren & Stimpy and it's natural inheritor, Spongebob, have always greatly amused me. Spongebob is a little more child-friendly but it has inherited a lot of the stylistic references and the off-the-cuff feel.
I did NOT care for the "Goofy Goober" dance, which in my eyes was a blatant rip off of the "Happy Happy Joy Joy" dance, bouncing butts et al. But it's a damn catchy tune. Damn them!

The animation is top notch as usual for SB, better than usual i should say.
I shan't spoil any surprises but it's got some amazing live action sequences and a side-stitching opening sequence.

The story is actually really funny, well-written and clear. What i like about SPongebob is that it is accessible for children as well as adults and there a number of occasions when I couldn't help but laugh out loud over something that children are sure to miss but its funny, whether you know the reference or not. I'm ecstatic they didn't choose for convenient plot devices or beaten down Hollywood paths but always chose to do something Just that little bit different, to always make it interesting.

The extras are nice too, some of them have a nice educational twist to them but not the usual boring spoonfed feel, and for the big children (and animators) among us it also shows some nice behind the scenes work, with animatics and designs and such.

I say, BUY this movie and greatly enjoy it. If you like SPongebob, great animation and aquatic humour, you'll love this movie.Read full review...

First Season DVD is Great for Kids of All Ages

This is a great way to start the Spongebob Squarepants DVD collection. This set includes all of the classic Spongebob episodes that found their way into our hearts. It also includes extras, such as cast and director commentaries, and insights into the beginnings of this quirky show. I bought this set as the start of my Spongebob Squarepants collection, and I am grateful that I did, because it only persuaded me to buy the others as soon as I could! The First Season of Nautical Adventures!

SpongeBob has always been a great cartoon, and it's nice to see how it started. Although this isn't my favorite season, its still fun to watch. All the characters have their introductions in episodes like "Tea at the Treedome", or "Plankton!" It has nice special features too, showing voice actors, writers, and what it's like to work on the show. Overall, I'd recommend this to all SpongeBob fans out there.Read full review...

A must have for a Spongebob Fan

I bought this as a birthday gift for my niece. I notice she has never stopped watching it ever since because she loves him so much. I think the first complete season of Spongebob was the best because it was the original. Even though the animation qualities are not as good as other season dvds, it has the first meetings of Spongebob's friends. Also, some people liked the original actor for Spongebob, but children often enjoy Spongebob for the comedy. I would recommend to this season to any Spongebob fan.Read full review...
