A long time favorite

This was one of my first adult books that I read when I was a teenager. The plot is good, the story is well-written and compelling. I can't wait to reread it after all these years.

Great Introduction to a Truly Wonderful Series!

One for the Money by Janet Evanovich is such a great book! I first found out about it while going to the NICU at the hospital three times a day to care for and spend time with my son who was born prematurely. One of the nurses there was telling me about the zany adventures of Stephanie Plum. I bought the book and was completely hooked!

One for the Money introduces us to Stephanie Plum, a laid-off lingerie buyer who virtually blackmails her bailsbondsman uncle into letting her try bounty hunting, of all things. With a sidekick she picks up along the way, Lula, she fumbles and bumbles along and actually catches a few "skippers." Part of what makes One for the Money (as well as the other books in the series) so appealing is that it features an ordinary woman (just like you and me) who tries hard. She is funny without meaning to be and also happens to catch the eye of two very goodlooking but different men in her life. This, of course, brings about plenty of physical situations for us to read about! :)

If you like strong women characters and mystery / thriller / danger / excitement / adventures / etc., as well as humor and romance, this book is for you! Welcome to the world of Stephanie Plum!

One For the Money

I started my Janet Evanovich collection of Stephanie Plum's bounty-hunter series of books on a whim and once I started, I couldn't put them down. I've read the first nine of her Plum series, the Christmas Plum - "Visions of Sugar Plums", and her collaboration with Charlotte Hughes in writing "Full House and Full Tilt."
In book one (of 11), Janet introduces us to Stephanie Plum, a cute, sassy, Jerseyite who is out of work, low on money and her car is in repo. Next, we meet Cousin Vinny, who owns his own business - bailbondsman, in other words "bounty-hunter." Then there's Grandma Mazur, Stephanie's ever-loving, goofy, gun-toting, stun-gun carrying grandmother who moved in with Stephanie's parents when Grandpa Mazur's fat-clogged arteries sent him to the big pork roast in the sky. Lula, an ex-prostitute who is trying desperately to turn her life, around soon joins the agency. Joe Morelli (a vice cop on the run for murder one charges). Ranger, the suave know-it-all-can't-be-touched-doesn't-play-by-the-rules bounty hunter and Connie, Vinnie's secretary.
Stephanie's first assignment is to bring in Joe Morelli. What she doesn't know, she will quickly learn. She finds herself in her first encounter with the sleazy Benito Ramirez, the prize-fighter as he states "what the champ wants, the champ gets" (and of course he is not likely to help Stephanie find and bring down Joe).
Grandma Mazur wants to join in the hunt for the fun of it, and Stephanie reluctantly agrees to have her tag along. Of course, Granny wants to bring her trusty gun for "protection" and of course, she's never used one either and what happens next...will have you rolling on the floor.
Stephanie's use of automobiles is another laugh a minute. I never knew one person could have such a jinx over her head as Stephanie does with cars.
Janet is the kind of writer who keeps you wanting to turn pages with belly laughs a minute.

An Easy Enjoyable Read

Being from New Jersey myself (and a book Seller) I decided I should read of Ms. Evanovich's books. One For The Money was light, enjoyable and a "quick" read. The characters are well-developed with light-hearted personalities; Stephanie the main character is a smart wise cracking bounty hunter. She constantly mentions her weight and eating and other "issues" facing most women. I like to see that in a character, it makes them more believable. All in all, a great book to read at the beach or on vacation.Read full review...

The Zany World of Stephanie Plum

"One for the Money" was my first visit to Stephanie's world and within three weeks I had managed to obtain the entire series! As a matter of fact the thirteenth in the series releases June 19 and I've reserved a copy. This series of whodunits has enough twists and turns to keep you interested and enough humor to make you laugh out loud. I've read the J.D. Robb series and the Sue Grafton series and can say without hesitation that Janet Evanovich offers a lot more entertainment. And if you think your family's three degrees off plumb you'll feel really good when you get to know Stephanie's relatives! The company she keeps will have you chuckling and the men in her life will have you looking for a fan!! I don't know how many of this series Janet Evanovich plans to write but I'll buy each and every one and fervently wish she'd write them faster!Read full review...

Get ready for a wild ride!

A friend suggested I try reading Janet Evanovich's novels. I am so glad I did! I am on #4 now and they just keep getting better. You have to start with "One For The Money" so you find out exactly what to expect from the rest. The bounty hunter character, Stephanie Plum, is quirky, energetic, brave and hilarious! I laugh out loud reading these books and I have referred them to many others. Definitely an author I will continue to follow!Read full review...

This Debut Novel is Witty & Full of Fun! L-O-L FUNNY!

This is my first novel by Janet Evanvich, and I am shocked I havent picked up her novels a long time ago! "One for the Money" is laugh-out-loud hilarious, filled with sexual tension, crime, and bounty hunting. I never wuld have thought I would enjy a book about bounty hunting, but I was clearly mistaken. I cannot wait to read more of the series, and I have a feeling I will love them as much as I loved this book! Stephanie Plum gives Jennifer Anistan a run for her money in her movie "The Bounty Hunter". Great book, I highly recommend it to EVERYONE!!!

Other recommended books include: "Ninja Soccer Moms" by Jennifer Apodaca, "Goodnight Nobody" by Jennifer Weiner, "Savannah Blues" & "Savannah Breeze" by Mary Kay Andrews, and "Crazy for You" by Jennifer Crusie.

One For The Money by Janet Evanovich

This is one funny and exciting book. Stephanie Plum is a young woman who lost her job and is about to loose everything. She goes to her cousin thinking she can do filing and ends up a bounty hunter. She gets into so much hot water. She don't know anything about chasing dangerous felons. She don't have a gun, and even if she did, she don't know how to fire it. She don't even know how to load one. She gets someone to help and she gets a gun. She takes shooting lessons from a friend who is a cop. This is a great read and the first of a series. I can't wait to read the second one.Read full review...
