Great talent from little known album

Many artists begin with an album or work that usually never gets heard or is forgotten years after they become famous. Sometimes an album will be all together not known until somehow it sees the light of day. This happened with Meat Loaf, well before his debut album Bat out of Hell in 1977. Not to be forgotten was 1975 and Rocky Horror. But before both of those amazing contributions, a little known album recorded in 1971, was released with a young guy named Meat Loaf and a female singer Shaun Murphy. Although Meatloaf became well known, Shaun Murphy seemed to not become quite as big. Even though "Bat out of Hell" is usually said to be his first official album, this album is really his first one. "Stoney and Meatloaf" is an album rather different than his later work, but somehow his voice alone stands out nonetheless. Most of the songs are short but still have a somewhat 70's feel and interesting flare. This album, although not very successful, is a unique album showcasing a great talent. Although the original LP is not currently available on CD in most countries, this is rare to find this. The first album had 10 songs, after he became big after BAT, it was re-released, but in a different format, and had extra songs and a few cut out from the original release. This particular CD, an import has 13 tracks, which includes all the songs from both versions of the album. Quite a treat to see and hear him well before we heard him several years later.Read full review...

A delightful rarity!

This is the very first album that Meat Loaf recorded. And, while he shared half of the vocals on this album with Shaun "Stoney" Murphy, neither of them disappoint. If you are a fan, treat yourself to this glimpse of a young pair of singers as they began their musical journeys. Read full review...
