It was the best summer of their lives.

Have read thousands of books and this is probably the most purely enjoyable one. Simply a warm, fascinating tale of 2 sorority sisters from the University of Iowa coming up with the incongruous idea of traveling to NYC ( it took over 2 days ) and finding jobs for the summer of 1945. Having experienced all their at best marginal plans for employment failing and literally running out of money, in desperation they traipse 5th Avenue cold calling at every retail door. Having struck out and at the end of their rope they find themselves at the mystical front doors of Tiffany. Naive beyond description and totally unaware females have never worked on the Tiffany sales floor - in they march, and, after being passed uphill from one amused manager to another and eventually to Mr. Tiffany himself - march out of his office with ... jobs ... to theirs and everyone’s shock.
What follows is what they self describe as the most wonderful summer of their lives :
They become the adopted darlings of the all male Tiffany’s adorned in Tiffany blue custom created sales girl uniforms by Bonwit Teller, experience the wonders of the City, date dashing midshipmen, and among other remarkable events of the closing days of WWII find themselves in Times Square wondering why a crowd estimated at Over 1 million is also there : to watch the live News Crawler announce the Japanese Surrender - and the mass hysteria that followed.Read full review...

Summer at Tiffany is a breath of fresh air

This has to be one of my favorite books of all time. I loved getting to know the characters in the book and then seeing the pictures in the middle of the book. I also enjoyed the innocence and excitement she relayed through her experiences. I received the book on Christmas morning and finished the book before I went to bed that night.

Summer at Tiffany was fantastic!

This book was great, I remember hearing about it a couple years ago. I am a student in my last year at University of Iowa and live down the street from the Kappa Kappa Gamma house where the girls' came from. I thought this book was such a great story kept it to have my mom read it since she would enjoy reading about a time period before her own. Definitely recommended!Read full review...

Wonderful read, I enjoyed every minute of it. And bought this copy for my stepmom who grew up in New York. Great history included here too. You will
not be disappointed by this sweet tale.

What an entertaining story - and true too!

I am not even a really serious reader, and I loved every bit of this story. It is light reading, and my mom loved it too as she grew up during that time period. I think any woman would enjoy this read.Read full review...
