SSBB Review from DC-Games.net

After a delayed release in America because of slow manufacturing, Nintendo finally released the much anticipated Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Brawl is the new crown jewel of the Nintendo Wii franchise. The new and improved game engine really boosted the graphics and light, and to say the least it’s awesome. Brawl has become an early favorite for Game of the Year.

Super Smash Brothers veterans could probably beat the game in 6-7 hours on the normal difficulty, but for the average player it takes from 10-12 hours to beat the adventure mode. Without revealing too much of the storyline, Nintendo has done a great job of incorporating the characters into “Adventure Mode” and providing a thrilling experience for the player.

The campaign is highly entertaining, but quite lengthy. Around the six hour mark the game becomes somewhat repetitive because you’ve unlocked most of the characters by then. Campaign picks back up later on with more action and a lot more excitement, making campaign easily rival Halo 3’s (if Halo was a platform game).

The multiplayer aspect of Brawl is great. You can set up 32 man tournaments (4 people per game) and have them duke it out until there’s a winner. There is also co-op in “Adventure Mode” and there are special events for co-op play.

Unfortunately, SSBB came out on the Wii, which means the online play, or WiiFi which isn't the most stellar online play. The Online games of Brawl are laggy and very unappealing, not to mention the friend list issues. You can have a max of 64 friends, but you are still a number. The worst part is that people you already have in your address book aren’t automatically added to your brawl friends list. You get a new number, and have to send it to people. Both players must add each other Brawl Numbers in order to play together.

Super Smash Brother Brawl overall is a great, long lasting, entertaining game that lived up to the hype (don’t get to say that to often). Brawl’s use of Wiimotes, nun-chucks, classic controllers, and even Gamecube controllers really lets the user use what they are most comfortable with. Brawl is the hand down the best Wii title to come out, and will most likely be the game of the year.

Overall rating 8.5/10

My 9 year old boys really enjoy it

They have been using it for a few weeks and they say it's exciting, entertaining and fun. It's easy to use once you get the hang of it. There are instructions in the booklet. You can do practice battles, as many as you need, without time limits and without your enemies trying to knock you off the stage.

There's one thing they don't like: in the story mode you can't choose your character. Also, the graphics are "medium", not great.

Overall, they are really pleased and recommend this this game.

One of the best games the Wii has to offer

Although the Wii does offer a new unique look into gaming, the console does somewhat lack the true gaming premise that requires awe-inspiring graphics and a multitude of legendary games that names never go unheard such as Call of Duty or HALO. Again the Super Smash franchise has come back to recreate this somewhat well-known game into a newer better fighting slashing galore that has been an obsession in all nintendo fans alike. The game has a newer cleaner modern look to the fighting and menus, but possibly due to the Wii's futuristic gaming design or possibly my loose grasp on the idea of using the Wii controller to play super smash may have strayed me from truly enjoying the game. To keep this review short, all in all I would say that I am certainly a fan of the Super Smash Franchise, but the lack of unique originality in the new Super Smash Brawl has slightly obscured the enjoyment in hack and slashing through the torrential levels to find out that ultimately you get for spending days on this game is a simple nice job from the creators. This is though, ultimately one of the more promising games for the Wii and it's definitely worth more than the thirty dollars you would have spent on a month of over-priced starbucks.Read full review...

Good price, great game, old favorite. Glad to find!

It works, was a good price, and we were glad to find another one. We had this when we were younger, it broke, and we had hoped to acquire a new one to play with younger siblings. The game is fun, and we enjoy spending some of our free time with an old favorite!Read full review...

Super Smash Bros Brawl (wii)

This is a great game, fun, and enjoyable game for the whole family. This is a great game not only for the clear graphics and the spectacular effects, but also because it brings many known characters all into one game. these characters include Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach, Yoshi, Kirby, King DeDe, Sonic, Snake, Fox, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Zelda, Pit, Link, Metroid, Lucas, Ness, and much, much more. This game also has awesome stages that make you feel like your in the action! I have played this game with my whole family and they all enjoyed it. I definitely recommended this game to anyone who enjoys playing video games. If I had the opportunity to buy this game again, I would buy it with no hesitation. Not only is it a great game, but it also brought my family closer.Read full review...

So Awesome!!

The game is fun and competitive with a large variety of characters to choose from, including fan-favorites such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Pikachu, Link, Kirby and Mario. Each character has different attacks, and it's interesting to see how each will respond to a Smash Ball, which basically turns you into a Super Saiyan. Sometimes after a brawl you will fight the CPU playing another unlockable Nintendo character, and once you beat them, you win the character to brawl with. I would absolutely recommend playing with another person, but if that's not doable at the time, you can play against a CPU of your choice and strength. There are many different maps from different games such as Star Fox, Metal Gear Solid, Metroid, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, etc. The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is exciting, and I absolutely adore this game and recommend it to anyone who likes waging an epic battle on a rainbow ship between a huge turtle monster, a woman in a suit, a guy with grenades, and a yellow rabbit that shoots lightning. Enjoy!Read full review...

Super Smash

This is a must have game for any Nintendo Wii owner. It combines characters from Nintendo's past and puts them into an arena together. It includes the popular characters such as Link, Mario, and Bowser and it also includes some of the more obscure characters like Pit and Metaknight. There is a character to fit every playing style and it is four players compatible so friends can play as well. The game plays like a fighter but instead of having a life meter the character loses if he/she is thrown out of the arena. As the player takes damage the likeliness of being thrown out increases. If you have played the older games then this is one does not really improve on those, it just adds a few new features and playable characters.Read full review...

One of the all time greats

This game represents the confluence of a great series (Smash Bros) and a great console (the Wii). The result is an excellent game for (most of) the whole family.

The Smash Bros series is known for giving us combat and entertainment with many of Nintendo's favorite characters, but without the blood and gore. If you don't want your child to play Mortal Kombat due to the amount of brutal kills, you might consider Smash Bros as a cleaner alternative. While there is certainly violence, with hammers, laser guns, swords, and fireballs all used as weapons, it's all very cartoonish and there are no brutal "kill shots" and no gore. It's a very PG way to smash your opponent's skull.

Of course NES favorites like Mario, Pikachu, Link, Samus, and Kirby are ready to battle, but many more (37 total) are ready to keep you and your friends or family entertained. This game is great for family game night, teens, and even adult party play. If you like fighting games, even passively, Super Smash Bros. Brawl has the widest appeal of any fighting game on any platform, ever.

A good game; nothing less, nothing much more.

I definitely like the seemingly endless fun this game generates and I recommend it as a party game. As a fan of Super Smash Bros. and an owner of all three games in the series, I have to admit it went from great to awesome to acceptable. The graphics and detail are amazing in the newest Brawl game, and the Subspace Emissary adventure and large selection of battle stages and items are incredibly entertaining; however, the nostalgia factor that I'm sure Nintendo wanted to create by bringing its characters together and including some third party characters (Sonic the Hedgehog, Solid Snake) isn't nearly as significant as the previous games in the series. I'm disappointed there aren't more of the Pokemon I grew up with in the game, and the samples of NES and SNES games you are allowed to play last between thirty seconds to about two minutes (a rather bad tease in my opinion). The gameplay is mostly outstandingly good and good versatility allows people of most ages to enjoy themselves. Though Super Smash Bros. Brawl fell slightly short of my expectations it is an excellent choice for multiplayer scenarios. Just like the earlier games, it just about never gets old.Read full review...

Great game, great value

This is one of my kids' favorite games. The graphics and game play are spectacular, and the number of characters and boards is impressive. Its the kind of game that takes a long time to play and doesn't really get old. This particular disc arrived in great shape and has had no problems at all in game play, unlike several previous attempts with used discs. Fast shipping plus an almost new disc (in appearance) equals a happy dad :)Read full review...
