Banned in Pottsylvania But A Cartoon Fan's Delight

One of the best of the live action adaptations of old cartoons right up there with the first "George of the Jungle" movie which manages to retain a lot of the sly satirical humour of the original show.
The CGI stuff is well-done with the character designs closely echoing the original characters unlike, say, the "Scooby Doo" movies where the marketing department 'cuted-up' the classic clumsy canine to improve toy sales, & the 3D-animated Moose & Squirrel interact seamlessly with their live action co-stars & environment (& yes, while unfortunately they were unable to get the late Bill Scott for the voice of Bullwinkle, they found a more than adequate substitute, & they did manage to get the great June Foray back as the voice of Rocket J. Squirrel).
No matter what you might have heard elsewhere this film is fun, fun for the whole family in that rare but enjoyable way that's safe for kids to watch without boring adults & is filled with a whole bunch of big name actors taking a great delight in the eagerly grasped opportunity to act silly (Robert De Niro not only plays head villain Fearless Leader but he also produced the film so obviously he isn't in it because he needed the money!).
All this & a really cool soundtrack too.
Extras include the trailer, production notes & a nice "making of" documentary, but take some time to check out the French language track if you want to hear what the characters sound like (actually, I recommend that for all discs...after all, you paid for it!).
It's really good job of dubbing, & if you are in any way familiar with the language you can tell that they aren't actually saying the same thing they are in the original American version. I guess some jokes just didn't translate so they've obviously made up their own (don't worry, unlike far too many discs out there this one comes with English subtitles!).
Anyway, if you're a fan of the original series or are just in the mood for something silly, give this one a shot.

Great for christmas gifts to Rockyites. and get one for yourself Too.

This is by far the best of the Rocky and Bullwinkle movies. I didn't know it had been created or released (I live in the midwest.) It must have dribbled into video stores. I ADOREDEVERY FRAME OF THIS legendayr pair. Robert Deniro plays Fearless Leader. There is a surprised there, but you'll have to see it I'm not going to give away. Jason Alexander gives a terrifically nuanced Boris. Gosh he a tremendous actor. Rene Russo is Great! The character of Natsaha Fatale was dead on. Why don't they use her more often in movies? She's got acting chops and she's gorgeous. She had the June Foray (original voice of Natasha) dead on. This movie (as all Rocky and Bullwinkle adventures) is Family friendly. One little snippet of dialogue Bullwinkle answers a question by saying "What Moose can't fly a aero-plane." GET THIS MOVIE BEFORE THE PRICES START GOING UP!!!!!!!!!Read full review...

As indicated on DVD like I typed above. A fifth word I'll add. Brilliant.

The Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon TV series going back to when I was just a little kid was very very good but this new movies and up to date improvement. People were real humorous and funny but Bullwinkle the moose was the funniest just like how he was a real laugh in the classic cartoon series. As indicated on DVD cover, witty, funny, clever and hip.Read full review...

rocky and bullwinkle, 2001

A campie, roger rabbit type of tail, story line weak, but typical of all rocky and bullwinkle "story lines" of the late 1950' and early 1960. I wanted to see all the bit or cameo parts in the movie, well worth the price. I'd recommend the movie, like the re-make of the Beverly Hillbillies, et al; I may want to watch it again in 5 or so years, here assuming DVD players are still with us. I still have a BetaMax that works, and a back up for Beta movies, and many VHS players. I don't think I'm going to go BlueRay (whatever) in the near future.Read full review...

Great Product, Cheap Price, A Must Have if Fan Of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Got this item as a gift for a friend. I had never seen this movie before so I had to watch it to see why they wanted it so bad. It was a pretty good movie. Most importantly the person I bought it for loved seeing it again. I would recommend this to anyone who just loves a good, clean and funny movie.Read full review...

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (DVD, 2001)

I watched this cartoon growing up. These modern day cartoons don't even compare to what we got to watch back then. This is a great movie for chidren to watch. My son loves it.
