American Girl Addy series

I bought these books for my six-year-old, and she really enjoyed them. I think she read the entire series in less than a week, and has read through them a couple times since then as well. I read them myself, because they were written when I was a teenager, so I had never read them before.
The main character, Addy, is a slave at the beginning of the series, but after half of her family is sold to another plantation, she and her mother run away to freedom. But Addy discovers that even with freedom, life is hard. Money is tight, and even in the North people are prejudiced. And throughout the series, Addy wishes for her father and brother and baby sister.
It is a very moving story, about freedom and family and love. It is very well-written. I highly recommend this series, for anyone, but especially for little girls. It's a great way to get kids interested in history.Read full review...

Awesome stories........a must read for any collector.

I bought this set of books to go with my new Addy doll. Of all of the sets of American Girl books that I have purchased so far, this is by far my favorite. Addy's stories are just so full of emotion and also tell the reader of what life was like during the slave days and how hard life was once Addy and her mother had escaped and tried to find a new life. Though they were free, they suffered many hardships and yearned to have the rest of their family with them. Every collector of these beautiful dolls needs to read these stories whether you own the doll or not. A++++ rating for sure.Read full review...

A historical window that even the pickiest reader would enjoy looking thru.

I bought this as a gift for my 10 year old daughter. She loves to read and is passionate about her American Girl Dolls. This product combines both these facets in such a way that she holds the best of both worlds in her fingertips. The casing that holds the books is sturdy and convenient.
