Return to Mayberry is a good one!
This is a wonderful 'Where are they now' installment that touches back in with Mayberry some 20 yrs after the old Andy Griffith Show went off the air. Andy and Helen got and stayed married, moved away, but are now bk and are considering staying. Barney finally made sheriff but stayed single; an old love interest may be in his future. (He's still crooning over the phone to 'Juanita'). Opie is all grown up, married, and knocked up his wife. They're considering leaving for bigger better opportunities (Opie runs the town paper and NYC is calling). Aunt Bee has passed. Gomer came bk from the Marines and has partnered with Goober to take over Wally's Garage and re-brand it as 'G & G's Garage.' Otis is now 'clean and sober.' Howard, the Darlings, Earnest T. Bass, etc are all bk and basically unchanged except that they're now 20 yrs older.
Missing are the Ken Berry character 'Sam Jones' (and son), Emmett, and Alice (Sam's housekeeper). It would have been nice had they been included or at least mentioned. 'Mayberry RFD' was a fine show in its own right and ran for 3 yrs.
All in all tho, 'Return to Mayberry' is a wonderful revisit and catch up with the overall message that altho life goes on, some things never change.

Andy Griffith Show is my favorite old black and white 1960s TV show. I have been watching it a lot. For that reason, I ordered Return to Mayberry reunion TV show, and I watched it twice. It was great but I like 1960s better than 1980s. I was surprised to see many memorable characters returning to the new 80s show. We have the 1st 5 yrs. of TAGS on dvd and he loves watching them over and over but has always been frustrated because Barney never "popped the question" as he (Barney) always expected Andy to do.
