The Cat Who------AUDIO.....Unabridged

NARRATED BY GEORGE GUIDALL......Unabridged Version

In the beginning......back when the "Cat Who" books first began, there were actual suspenseful mysteries to be solved and the writing was exciting to the point I would even re-read the books again. Well, the last few books have really done a turn around. I have no idea why and I wish I could ask Ms. Braun. All of a sudden the books leave questions unanswered and most of the story is repeating itself from previous books into oblivion. Half the book spent on details about things that could have been summed up in half a chapter for newcomers. I truly miss Ms. Braun's old style writing, and wonder why it now rambles? For as long as Polly and Qwill have been together, well, you just don't phone someone from Paris and say cheerfully......"I've been offered a job for 3 years and the vet will give the cats away and the realtor will sell my condo and give all my furnishings to charity".....HUH? They were more than just friends.....weren't they? How could Ms. Braun just do a fast dump? Cheap shot. No fight, no nothing.....just a phone call with Qwill taking the news without so much as a tear drop. Then the barn burning.....and Qwill acting like it was no big deal. I guess I am shocked. The "mystery" was barely worth mentioning. The culprit must of gotten away.....nobody said if they burned the barn or someone else did the deed. Questions, questions. Qwill is already set up with a new girlfriend.....a head librarian....ring any bells? Maybe this is the next to the last book because Ms. Braun seems to have slowly wiped out a lot of what was Qwill's life. The book was shorter than the others and I finished it in one day.....maybe because most parts were bland and I couldn't bare to read them word for word. A sadness has fallen over the "Cat Who" books. If the other reviewers really think this is the best, then they can't have read the beginning books.....the real stories about "The Cat Who".....the books that you wanted to read again and again.Read full review...

A must read series for every cat & mystery lover!

I first discovered this series of books when trying to find a fun, non-offensive, mystery for my 80+ year old mother to enjoy.
A librarian suggested this series by Lillian Jackson Braun and I have to say that my mother has went through them so fast that we are now waiting for Ms. Braun to write more!

The characters are defined in such a way that you really don't need to read them in order but, after receiving a list from that lovely librarian, I chose to start mom (and myself) out from book one to the end and because of that can see connecting details that enriched the characters as well as the settings.

I found this book to end abruptly compared to others in the series, while it still left me wanting for more, in relation to the others I felt that it was incomplete and I was disappointed at the end.

Nevertheless, every book in the series will leave you with a fondness for KoKo and YumYum and Jame Qwilleran himself and the other characters of Pickax in Moose County.

Ms. Braun, if you should happen across this review, please, bring back my barn. your descriptions of which made it one of my favorite places to spend time...

The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers by Lilian Jackson Braun

This book, one of a series, is just what it was meant to be. A quick, clean, sweet moment of living an uncluttered, simple life with Jim Quilleran and his two cats. I call these "candy books" because they are a little sweet snack one might pick up in the afternoon and enjoy for a few moments. Nothing too serious yet enough to engage your attention. I love the eccentricities of the many characters and not having to wade through some non-essential,lurid sexual encounter thrown in to make the book appealing to a wider audience. It's one I can read to my grandson without editing out the rough parts. Thoroughly enjoyable. Just what I ordered!Read full review...

Wonderful audiobook

This author has entertaining humor, easy listening for my commute, use of a cat to solve mysteries. The reader is terrific in voicing the different characters in the book. I have purchased as many of these audiobooks as I could find, and afford. I reccomend this audiobook as well as all the others by Braun and read by George Guidall.Read full review...

audio books for my mother

I buy these Cat Who books for my mother who is legally blind and cannot read print books very easily. She loves the Cat Who stories and previously had the books on cassette tapes but they keep breaking so I thought I would get her a CD instead so she can listen to it all she wants.Read full review...

Not the best cat who book

Not as good as her other cat who books. Even weaker story line then usual. She did get rid of one of the main charaters though, so maybe the next book will be better.

The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers

I enjoy listening to this series while driving. They are good stories that don't require a lot of attention to understand what is going on. I have gotten to know the main characters and the flow of the stories and I love the cats.Read full review...
