My son is still asking about his elf!

The elf shows up at your door from the north pole. You have to give him a name and a special place to sit in your home. Each night, he flies back to Santa to report on how your child/children behaved during that day. When he returns he is sitting in a new place. Every morning the kids have to find his new spot. My son really liked looking for "Tommy" every morning, and would even come home from the store and let "Tommy" know if there was a new toy that he found and would like from Santa. "Tommy" left on Christams eve to stay at the north pole and help Santa prepare for next year. But my husband and I have decided that he will probably return at necessary times during the year to check up on our son. My son is almost 3, and the explination about not touching him because it would take away his magic worked great, and we never had a problem. I even had to use my Christmas potholders to take him out of the box so I wouldn't ruin his magic! We really enjoyed having "Tommy" with us this year, and he will be great to have in the years to come!Read full review...

A teacher's Early Crhristmas Gift !!

As a kindergarten teacher I dread students' behavior the week before the Christmas break. This year, a few children in the class had elves (on the shelf) being mischievous at home and would eagerly share their morning findings with us at school. So I decided to purchase one for our classroom. We watched the movie about the Elf on the Shelf, read the story ( I changed up a few words to make it fit to our classroom setting) It worked wonderfully!! The product arrived new and unopened. I also bought our Elf a pair of pajamas (found @ Target) that he sported as the children entered the classroom the morning of pajama day. I guess the Elf on the Shelf really does "hear" what we are saying!Read full review...

A Truly Amazing Christmas Tradition

I first saw this advertised in a Sky Mall and thought it looked cute. Boy, did I underestimate how wonderful this is! I have 4 1/2 year old twins. They LOVE this little elf. The book explains the rituals in a charming and beautiful way. Essentially, this is an elf "scout" sent by Santa from the North Pole during the holidays to a family. The family adopts the elf and gets to name him. (We named our elf, Max) Max is an ADORABLE little posable elf with a very retro-looking happy face. He sits on shelves, frames, window ledges - as many places as your imagination can think of. According to the story, he watches over the family, listens to the children's wishes and uses Christmas magic to fly back and report Santa at the North Pole every night. He reports how good the children are, whether they weren't so good, and tells Santa about all their wishes, hopes, fears, delights -- whatever the kids want to tell the Big Guy. So, the next morning, when the children wake up, Max is always hiding in a new place. The elf gently helps little ones waiting for Christmas to monitor their behavior, without heavy handed threats. Instead, it is positive encouragement for the little ones to be at their very best and anticipate the elf's good reports to Santa every night. Every morning they jump out of bed, excited to find their elf's new hiding place. One of the rules, is that no one can touch him (or his magic might go), and that certainly helps to preserve the elf AND the magic. My children are just the right age for this kind of magic. They are completely sold on him and his activities. It is so sweet and charming to watch them talk to the elf and explain their day to him, anticipating his journey to the North Pole later that night. This is a marvelous addition to any house with small children and would make an amazing early Christmas present to anyone with kids. I know our elf will stay in our family forever - even when my kids have outgrown his "magic" - the tradition will always be lovely. And the elf is simply adorable!Read full review...

The Elf on the Shelf - Cutest Idea

I had a friend tell me about this wonderful tradition that she started this past Christmas with her family. She has a 4 year old and she said he fell in love with it. It was also fun for the whole family. She encouraged me to begin it next Christmas with my now 2 year old, so I simply can't wait! I look forward to naming the Elf and the fun of the search each morning. If anyone doesn't know the tradition, I recommend they read about it. Once you do, you'll want to get yours right away. I know it will be one more way I can enjoy Christmas with my little girl!Read full review...

The Elf on the Shelf

This book is one of the best Christmas traditions you could ever start. I bought one a couple of years ago for my daughter to do with her children. I don't know who enjoyed it the most. The parents or the children. It has been enjoyed in our family for the last three years when my sister first told me about it with her little boy . I bought another one this year to put up for next Christmas. Can't wait til Thanksgiving when the new little Elf appears to get his name and make Christmas just as exciting in their house. No one ever knows where the little Elf might show up. My grandaughters elf , Samantha, went to the North Pole one night and when she returned she had a Christmas skirt on. How exciting was that? You never know where the elf is watching you from but beware he goes to the North Pole at nights to report to Santa. SO MUCH FUNRead full review...

A precious tradition to adopt

I purchased the "Elf on a shelf" to give to friends so that they can begin this tradition with their two children (daughter 3.5 yrs and son 4 months). Their daughter is really into Christmas this year. Great fun for her to look for the elf each morning and a "golden" opportunity for her parents to engage in a little bit of behavior modification -- i.e., "the elf is watching!" ; )

The storybook has lovely illustrations and the packaging is exquisite. Colorful and well-made so that the storybook and elf will be well-protected when put away each Christmas Eve to wait for the next Thanksgiving. This gift is designed to be enjoyed as a precious family tradition for many, many years. Worth every penny.

It is very specail.

You can make it funny or sweet for you're children. We have only got to use one of them. The other 3 are too small, but will next year. This year the 5 year old loved it. On morning she woke up and could not find her elf, she was so upset, because she though she had been bad the day before, but all of a sudden she happened upon it, what a wonderful day she had. All she could say before it showed up was oh no,oh no. Thanks again for discovering the elf. Great grandmother of Anyssa our 5 year old.Read full review...

Elf on the Shelf is a HIT!

My 3-year old grandson LOVES our Elf on the Shelf! His behavior has improved, but he's really not bad to start with! He's ALMOST over the terrible twos! It was fun watching him discover where the elf was watching from each day! My grandson is half Cajun and has a beautiful darker complexion and he has brown wavy hair and brown eyes. I ordered this elf because of its common features with my precious little grandson! I'm glad they come in several variations! I think most children would enjoy having Elf on a Shelf as part of their Christmas tradition; though in our home, Christ comes FIRST. We made CERTAIN that our children recognized Christmas as the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and we are doing the same for our grandchildren. We believe that our faith is most important but that adding some additional fun to the holiday for the children is great! When they're old enough to truly understand our beliefs fully, they'll be old enough for us to pack up the Elf on the Shelf and put him into storage so that they can use the same one for their own kids and grandkids! What a marvelous family keepsake to pass down from generation to generation!Read full review...

Kids and Adults Love the ELF on the SHELF

For our 4 and 6 year old kids this is a big deal in their lives. The elves sit somewhere in the house and cannot be touched. Every night the elves return to the North Pole to report to Santa about the behavior of the children. The elves return to sit in a different spot. The first thing children do when they wake up is find where the elves are. Of course kids try to be on their best behavior so elves give a good report to Santa.
This year we had to buy a girl elf so the boy elf from last year has a girlfriend. We are surprised to see how much our boys love these elves. We adults are having fun with them, too!
