Family Man

I bought it because of Nicolas Cage. Wonderful movie and message. Makes a person look at priorities in life and what is really important to them. I love family... so for me it was warm, touching, delightfully humorous and very romantic. And at times Nicholas was downright out hilarious!
I wish they could have skipped over the intimate scene with him and the girl friend...just see them walk thru the door and then it close it... and then the wife in the shower could have been at least blurred and not so pronounced. Leave something to the imagination. That part was a little too exposed for my liking .....but it was brief and the film kept rolling back to Nicolas's expressions...he is really delightful....And I will watch the movie again...
So overall, it was a great movie!
... and the children were adorable! I would watch it again just for the children.
I wish film-makers would realize that exploiting the human body is not what we want to see. We want clever themes, excitement, romance and good clean entertainment. And something that makes us laugh...just good old humor! And leave the sexual intimate parts to the imagination...That is not something to be filmed. Love is fantasy and enchantment and that part of love is something that can't be captured on film anyway....
And I believe that I am speaking for many more people than you realize.
America is returning to a new level of morality and appreciating old values and movies should not violate that; but rather encourage it for the good and safety of us all.
And the profanity amazes me. They use the name of Deity as an exclamation point. Wish we could get away from that. (So that is my dislike)
But Nicolas Cage was endearing and T'ea Leoni was a wonderful example of what a wife should be and the love and emotion between them was electric!
Excellent movie! I marked it as Good because of the above mentioned reasons.

Not Just A Christmas Movie.........

I’ve read some of the reviews and I’ll just comment on a few others opinions. I agree that I wasn’t totally thrilled with the ending, all they would of had to do is spend a few more more minutes to the ending and rewind to the beginning again when instead of leaving for London he would of made a different decision. The scene that some were complaining about was said to be a “nude” scene. She was in the shower folks, behind the shower door and the scene wasn’t very long. I think it was an appropriate scene, it showed a glimpse of how he felt and how comfortable she was after all those years. Look at their faces. It was about Love folks, not sex. Some of the comments regarding “that one scene” was just absolutely ridiculous.......... The two children in the movie were absolutely adorable and the little girl was so amazing that she had me tearing up more than once. Not a movie for Christmas time, but anytime and you definitely can’t beat the price!Read full review...

Sentimental tale of a man on the wrong path to happiness, even with tremendous wealth.

A man is moved from a penthouse in Manhattan, and a multimillion deal he is brokering, and goes to New Jersey, where he is married to his old girlfriend and has two children that he comes to adore, and his wife as well. He works as a retail tire salesman for his father in law, who had bad health. His old boss from the brokering firm has a flat, and Jack orders a tire for the luxury machine, and arranges to come to the firm to bring the car back. Jack gets a starting job with the firm, but his wife is happy where she is, in the house in New Jersey. When it is time for Jack to "go back" he finds his wife (a non-profit lawyer), is planning to move to Paris, France to take over a large, successful legal firm. He leaves his lucrative job and begs his wife to remember how it was before he went overseas 13 years ago, when she begged him to stay. He had to describe the two children to her, in the new time they simply didn't exist. She was moved and impressed by his words, and he missed a deal worth millions, and she missed the flight to Paris. I think they moved to New Jersey and had the kids, and that he worked for a retail tire company. Very well produced movie, touching and believable, you are rooting for the more sedate lifestyle, and the beautiful kids.Read full review...

A great movie with a wonderful message

It is a great movie with a wonderful message about correct priorities. Chasing dollars is not happiness. Family is true happiness. Work to live, not live to work. Look at the millionaires and billionaires today. Do any of them have a happy countenance? To me, they do not. They all have a permanent scowl on their face, like they have seared their conscience and are now past feeling. Read full review...

Take It's a Wonderful Life into 2000 and twist...

...Or should I say...

Take It's a Wonderful Life, bring it into the year 2000, and put in a blender on LIQUEFY. The Family Man was a wonderful movie in and of itself, but I can't get it out of my mind that there's a little bit of Wonderful Life or even A Christmas Carol creeping into the plotline.

My humble analysis

As far as acting goes, I thought the entire cast was outstanding. Cage and Leoni have great chemistry, and both can easily portray their characters in either reality. The little girl was adorable, as I have mentioned, and perhaps a star in the making. Everyone worked so well together, and it was a real delight to watch such a fabulous cast.

I think the moviemakers aimed for too stark a contrast between realities. Sure, suburban life isn't nearly as glamorous as how the Other Half lives on Wall Street... But it's not nearly as depressing as what we were shown. The way things were going, I don't think anything could've endeared me to that lifestyle if I had been Jack Campbell. At least a transition was made, but it just seemed way too much like settling. I don't think Kate appreciated being constantly reminded that Jack had settled for her by not taking that internship in London. I know I would've sent him to sleep on the couch each and every night he'd berated her.

I also completely hated the ending. There was no closure for me. I would have been much happier if we'd had an ending like The Devil's Advocate. Rewind to the moment Jack was at the airport with Kate. And start over from there, making the "right" decision to choose Kate. But I didn't make the movie, and the people who did just didn't want it to happen that way. They end the movie with uncertainty, and I can only use my imagination to fill in the blanks to my satisfaction.

Should you go see it?

Definitely. This is a really romantic movie, though, most suitable for couples who have been together for a while. I don't think this is good early-relationship material, as it raises too many questions about the direction your relationship is taking. Married couples may be annoyed at how depressing Jack's life is depicted in New Jersey, but you will become endeared as the movie goes on. This movie made me cry, so be sure to have tissues close at hand. Five thumbs up.

Love this movie The Family Man w Nicholas Cage

It's always been a favorite. It gives you one of the best perspectives on life and can cause one to think about what's really important in life. Huge fan. Die hard fan. Beautiful scene where he sings to Kate on her birthday. Gets me every time. Great humor as well. This movie should be more popular. I plan on keeping this for my children to watch.Read full review...

True good entertainment

This morning melts me every year. Seems like I only watch it at Christmas, but really this is a movie that is seasonless for telling the story of your best gifts are those in your very room.
