John Wayne at his Cavalry best
"The Horse Soldiers": Based on an actual story of Colonel Grierson's Raid into the south during the American Civil War, this John Wayne movie was ahead of it's time. There's quite a bit of trivia attached to this particular NTSC VHS film (1998 issue) but you'll need to see it a few times first, so you might as well buy it. The cavalry movements are quite impressive and it's really more meaningful if you read up on this particular Civil War action first. It belongs in the collection of all historians and militaria collectors.Read full review...
The Horse Soldiers
One of John Waynes better movies. Loosely based on General Grant's western capaign prior to the Vicksburg seige. I found Wayne's character the most entertaining during his interaction with the two confederate deserters scene. As a whole, it's probably not one of the more popular movies that the Duke played in, but it is certainly one of his best.Read full review...
Civil War Cavalry At Their Finest
John Wayne never dissapoints but the doctor portrayed in this film gets my vote 10 times over. A real humanitarian caught up in the war between the states, he will stay with the wounded and dying and be taken POW by the enemy before he leaves any one soldier, blue or gray, behind. Bravo!Read full review...
