Gothic Mystery/Romance
I wouldn't really classify this as a horror movie, by modern standards. It starts off slowly and is somewhat confusing at the beginning. Once it gets going, a young woman named Jill finds herself re-connecting with the college boyfriend who dumped her three years ago with no explanation. This time, as Jill's romance with Rick heats up, they are in his family's creepy old mansion with a creepy old housekeeper. The plot twists keep coming, and though some are obvious, others are genuinely unexpected. It's not clear who is good and who is evil here, nor who is being victimized and who is willingly along for the ride. Fans of 1940s Gothic films like REBECCA and JANE EYRE, or the more recent film CRIMSON PEAK, should enjoy this one. Read full review...

All around GOOD mellow dramatic thriller.
If you read the ever great Edgar Allan Poe's tale (the book)of this movie, you'll see it is based on it. It does not exactly follow it but tweaked it real good. The acting is great. GREAT cast! The story goes a bit slow in the beginning but that's the way it is AND YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION or you will be confused by the end. The build up is real good but NOT explosive. Twists and turns will unexpectingly throw you off and the end has a surprise and plot that you will not predict. Buy this movie. (-:
