a very deep intriguing movie.

it is a time capsule movie; early to mid 70,s in an upper middle class town in Connecticut;ang lee a young new director has pulled off a true tour de force with this movie;dealing with the issues of swinging in suburbia;the post Vietnam;watergate; teen sexuality;it deals with a number of issues very well;despite the polyester fashions and new age exploration; the adults in this film who are materialy successful have unforfilled lives ;there is a feeling of malaise here that can be felt;i for one really enjoyed joan allens strong performance;tobey Maguire and christana ricci also had standout performances as teens from well off fammiles that were emotionally shallow;that were discovering their budding sexuality and drug use;kevin klein as the father who was coveting his neighbor,s wife;the fact that a child died tragically brought one family together and left another one shattered. The Ice Storm

This is a gratifyingly complex work. The swing time ethos' affect on adolescents is something not much addressed in film, but was well presented and represented in Ice Storm. Also well portrayed was the conflict in some adults between various commandments, the Seven Deadly Sins and the mores of the day. An interesting insert was the petty theft seen first with the daughter, then with the mom, the implication that the fruit falls not far from the tree carries over to the daughter's agressive sexuality, present in mom but appears more latent than blatant; also brought forcefully home is homily that 'nothing is free', with the deliterious effects of adult behaviour upon themselves and their children. Unique & interesting movie

I bought this movie just because I wanted to see Tobey Maguire but I was honestly very happy with the entire story & all the actors were great! The cinematography was beautiful too. Highly recommend seeing this!Read full review...
