The Mechanic (DVD, 2002)

This is vintage Charles Bronson. He is the sure-footed, cold-blooded, ice man - A contract killer. He leaves nothing to chance. He is Mr. Meticulous. He carefully formulates his plan and with exact precision, executes his skill. His bosses are mostly the mob commission, but he is also an independent contractor. The son of a friend, Steve (Jan Michael Vincent), figures out what Bronson does and wants to learn from the best. Bronson likes Steve because he reminds him of himself, only years earlier. Steve knows that Bronson killed his father, but since he inherited his wealth, he doesn't have a problem with it. The truth is, he too, is also cold as ice. Bronson take Steve in tow and starts teaching him his trade. He teaches him his precision, and meticulousness. When he takes Steve as a partner on his next job, and things get kind of sloppy, his bosses are upset because he never asked their permission to use Steve. Bronson sort of has a hunch that he may be in trouble with them and formulates an alternate plan, just in case his hunch is true. The next job is out of the country and when he and Steve complete the job they have a drink just before leaving to return to L.A. Bronson immediately knows that he has made a mistake. The glass was laced with an undetectable poison, and while he was dying, he knew that his worse fear was true. He knew that the bosses had also given Steve a contract on him. Bronson was anguished that he had let Steve get the best of him, yet somehow surprised by Steve's cleverness. Steve returns to L.A. and moves into Bronson's home and all but assumes his life. Steve is summoned by the bosses and when he gets into his car, he notices a note left for him by Bronson. . ."Boom"!Read full review...

Excellent Movie

This movie is one of my all-time favorites. But then again. ANY movie with Charles Bronson has gotta be good. So happy to be able to add this to my collection.

Great Charles Bronson film. Cold and calculating, cultured and smart. Professional pride in an unusual profession.

Sometimes the Original is just better

I think Hollywood has ran out of Ideas, the remake of this movie Blows! Watch the Original, much more plot & detail. Simply more believable.

The Mechanic

One of Charles Bronsons best films and did very well at the box office. In
the movie, Bronson plays a hit man for the organization and always works alone.
But when willing acolyte, Jan Michael Vincent, proves he has the stuff that
aspiring killers are made of, Bronson agrees to train him-though without "the
Organizations approval". They decide Bronson has exceeded his authority, after
a hit is blotched, and it appears like it might be a case of the pupil overtaking the master though, as Vincent begins to get some peculiar ideas
of his own. When Bronson finds a "hit" book on himself, action ensues and
great surprise ending. A night full of entertainment in this movie that most
will enjoy if you like Action Classics and Mystery type movies.
