possibly the best period drama ever filmed!

this may be roland emmerick's masterpiece: perfect writing, directing, perfectly chosen actors for each role, a real sense of time & place, set amidst the turbulent yet, ultimately, the triumphant birthing of America.

editing is tight. and even better here in the extended version. the story flows flawlessly, close-ups and details on screen just long enough for meaning. post production lends additional wealth and realism seamlessly. landscapes, lighting and colors, already wonderful on the dvd, are mesmerizing on bluray.

historical context has been carefully researched, as is evident in both the script and the authentic costumes.

crowning it all is the powerful score courtesy of john williams (famed for his indiana jones theme.) it rolls and thunders throughout the film with passion and purpose, heralding both grievous peril and exalted moments of success.

if you appreciated this on dvd, then the bluray extended version will be a treat. it runs 174 minutes, at which time you may be surprised to lament its end. but be ye comforted - the bonus features are worth a look, and may serve as a suitable encore!

"THE PATRIOT" REVIEW

This movie , with Mel Gibson, is historical fiction. Gibson, as a father of 5 children, had been in a war before, so he must wanted to raise his family, and stay out of unjust wars. Then the redcoats shot his son which sent this father back into a war he has not wanted to be any part of. Of course, Gibson's character showed up the English, and was able to go back to his family.
The family was a tightly knit group, which was nice. There was war, romance, family, tragedy, and much love. It gets a bit violent on one part, but the movie as a whole was enjoyable all the way through. I recommend this historical fiction, The Patriot.

Nadeem's Review

I just love the story because it is based on the Revolutionary War when we first won our freedom here in the United States of America. I am also very thankful that Mel Gibson and a few other actors came together to do this story.Read full review

Rousing Revolutionary War action.

It is loosely based on the life of Francis Marion (the Swamp Fox), but I do mean loosely. Good action and storyline but not historically correct. There aren't that many Revolutionary War movies so this one is worth a look.Read full review
