Underratted Slasher

If you like this kind of film (80's style slashhers...) then THE PROWLER is for you. Long saught after and hard to find on VHS back in the 80's and into the 90's, Blue-Underground releasesed this extras-packed DVD in 2003 to rave reviews from genre fans.

It is a basic slasher story line in the vein of "revenge killing on an anniversary". Following a WWII vet as he pitchforks his way through a group of college kids trying to have fun at the first graduation dance held at their school since, you guessed it, 35 years before a couple was killed at the very same dance...It seems the WWII vet had recieved a "Dear John" letter and was none too happy to find his former squeeze in the arms of another at the shin-dig upon returning home from saving the world. Lets just say he is still angry over the loss of his lover and will not tolerate young ones covorting at another graduation dance!

Yeah, it's the same old song and dance we've all seen, BUT, what seperates this slasher from others is the above average acting, great location, and taught direction from genre vet Joseph Zito. Barring some jarring editing dicisions, this is a standout film.Read full review...

An 80s Slasher Triumph

Being a fan of the 80's slasher genre, I thought it was obligatory to see this film.

Directed by Joe Zito, this film pleased this horror/suspense fan.

The editing was so superbly done that it only adds to the rise of the plot.
Tight and choppy, yet, at the same time, maintaining an odd continuity that pleased the thrill-seeker in me.

Vicky Dawson played the "surviving victim" with such method, that one truly entered the screen and not once did I think: "Oh no, where'd they get this bimbo?" Her affect and countenance was on cue and certainly delivered the scares and heightened the suspense.

Christopher Goutman never really adds any flavor to the scenes and is cinematically no more than an appendage.

This film doens't pretend to be a who-done-it. There is no true effort to deduce who is the prowler. This film takes the viewer on a true rollercoaster ride of fright and relief.Read full review...

the prowler 1980s slasher movie , this is a cult classic .

i saw this movie when i was 10 . i like the slasher movie yrs. there were so many out there . but this one was a favorite for me . because tom savini doing the fx . it did go along in many ways as my bloody valentine not as good but just as likable . this is an 80s slasher film classic. i got it for a wonderful price and you can too. come get the prowler before he comes for you .Read full review...

The Prowler

This is your typical 80's slasher film except it lacks where others have accomplished. I thought that it moved a little slow and the acting wasn't all that great. It was pretty much a knock off of My Bloody Valentine which I thought was a much better film. I didn't really care for the characters all that much and there wan't alot of story there to keep me interested. I watched from beginning to end.
