Well, loved the comic growing up and the movie was a faithful adaptation of the story. Dave Steven’s, the creator, was heavily involved in all aspects of the filming process and it shows. It actually looks like they looked to him for guidance and it shows in the quality of the film! It’s a romping serial classic in the vein of Indiana Jones, another serial classic. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and is a great popcorn movie.
Finding the Special Edition was a Big Plus! Enjoy…

Good looks but short on new bonus features.

Movie looks great on blu-ray but I was disappointed that the 20th anniversary of the movie only had the theatrical trailer available under bonus features. Shame on you Disney!

Great movie. Underwhelming edition.

First off, this film is excellent! The action is great. The actors portray their roles well. The effects, though slightly dated, are still excellent. This IS a comic book movie, so there's going to be some cheese, like the brute's face. It's obviously prosthetic. But the cinematography makes him still a chilling presence. The music is phenomenal! I still listen to the main theme on YouTube all the time.

If you read any reviews of this edition, you'll find the same complaints. While the picture is good, there are virtually NO special features. This is frustrating considering the director has said that he has a great deal of behind-the-scenes footage and stories that he'd love to share. But Disney simply isn't interested. There's been talk of a sequel in the works. Maybe we'll get a better edition soon. Until then, this a slightly overpriced, underwhelming edition of a fantastic comic book adventure film.

Good movie-where are extras Disney?

I have always liked this film. Was a disappointment when released June 1991 that it did NOT do well at the box office. I remember watching Bill Campbell on "Entertainment Tonight" at a movie theater after it only placed #3 at the box office opening weekend.

Good adventure film. Holds up today. Fun, good special effects that hold up as well. Original story.

NOW, let's go on Disney. This is titled a “20th Anniversary” blu ray package. OK, you would figure there would be some sort of extras on this, even for a film that disappointed at the box office. "It was heavily promoted when released, they do not have any “Making of" programs or anything like that? They put extras on DVD's & blu rays for "straight to video" Disney releases that do NOT deserve them. But, NOTHING on this film. And, only the 1 disc because of this. CHEAP DISNEY, VERY CHEAP.

Good film good picture, bottom of the barrel for Disney DVD/blu ray releases. Terrible, claiming a "20th anniversary" edition.

Recommended ONLY for film NOT LACK OF PACKAGE.

A nostalgic blast!

Watched it last night. It stands up on its story which basically is “good guys have thing which bad guys want”. But it is SOOO well done! Good performances, great action. Recommended very much.

Great 1930s style actioneer movie.

A great steelbook presentation of this classic live action comic book movie. One of the underrated Disney classics. Just wish there were a selection of special features that came with the disc, and a booklet.Read full review...

The Rocketeer is so much fun to watch.

The Rocketeer is a really good movie and ahead of its time. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the James Horner soundtrack.

Looked great on a 200" screen projected with a Runco!

This is a fun movie that never takes it's self too seriously.(Think 'Raiders of the Lost Ark') The effects & production value are tremendous. This was Disney's most expensive movie ever at the time of production.(1991)
The film centers on a rocket pack that was stolen from Howard Hughes Aviation. Air Racing pilot Cliff Secord discovers the 'rocket' & with the help of Pevey (Alan Arkin) the adventure begins. Throw in gangsters,Nazi spys, 1933 Hollywood set pieces & the gorgeous Jennifer Connelly as a Betty Page type aspiring actress and you have one fun ride!
The flying sequences were done by ILM & hold up pretty well. This movie got lost at the time of release between 'Batman Returns' & 'Ghostbusters II'. Otherwise it would have been a huge hit. Not having a known star (Bill Campbell?) as the Rocketeer also did not help. Bill Campbell does a great job in the title role & his boyish wonder fits the movie as the 'Rocketeer' grows to be a hero.
There was a sequel planned but poor box office squelched that idea. The soundtrack is fantastic & the title song should have been nominated for an Academy Award.
This is a gem of a movie & it should not be missed!
