Saw this when it came out in 1950s :) Yeah, I'm that old
This is in the 1950s "what horror can we expect?" type movies a lot of hyp, but James Arness went on to star for 20 years as the lead in GUNSMOKE TV Western. You have to take the breaks when they come. Usual cheesy alien and people running about. However, it is still a real look at what we saw and cringed at in the theaters while munching popcorn and drinking Coca-Cola. I saw this in a theater in San Antonio in the heat of the summer. My mother and I were on our way to a tour of Mexico and our hotel stopover was not air conditioned, we saw it three times in a row to stay cool. I just bought this in 2021 to show my son and granddaughter. Read full review

Thing from another world... F-
Well for all the hype of this movie it's TERRIBLE! Maybe 5 minutes of footage at best of the Thing J Arness. I love b grade scifi but this movie stinks. Big Arness fan as well, Thing looks like marshal Dillon in a painters outfit. You can tell its him by the mannerisms. I'll keep it in the collection and watch it again for a good laugh.Read full review

Absolute classic 1950s scifi / horror.
As a kid I must have watched The Thing on a 21" B&W TV, with a horribly grainy print of the movie. It's really nice to see it in this digital format on a big screen TV.

Classic Sci Fi, Glad I Purchased the Movie
Always loved this classic black & white sci-fi movie directed by Christian Nyby, produced by Edward Lasker for Howard Hawks'. Watched it Saturday night, will watch again soon. It is such a cool movie. Takes place at the north pole at the time of the cold war (no pun intended) with Russia, references are made in the movie regarding Russian aircraft flying over US territory. Great acting. Buy it IMDb gives it a 7.3, I think it is better than that.Read full review

"The Thing" is one of a very few highly suspenseful and well written Sci-Fi films of all time.
The original (early 50s) B&W "The Thing" is one of a very few highly suspenseful and well written Sci-Fi films of all time. If you've never seen it, you're missing something very special. The entire cast is magnificent.Read full review
