Better than Most Faith/Inspirational Films

With the formation of 20th Century Fox's new Christian division, Fox Faith, the studio is set to launch several films aimed at a Christian audience. At the top of the pile is "The Ultimate Gift," a movie filmed two years before Abigail Breslin became a household name with "Little Miss Sunshine."

"The Ultimate Gift" follows Jason Stevens, an apathetic youth who must jump through a few hoops before receiving an inheritance left by his late, enormously wealthy grandfather. Along the way, Jason awakens from the disillusioned life he's been leading and meets a multitude of colorful characters.

"The Ultimate Gift" is so polished because it had a higher budget than most films in the inspirational genre. Sad to say, but money rules the day, and most faith films have less than $1 million dollars to work with. Apart from bludgeoning the viewer with a message while sacrificing quality scrips, filming or acting, many of these low-budget inspirational films are barely qualified TV movies.

But "The Ultimate Gift" is different. While the script does suffer from a few obvious plot holes, the film is mostly solid. Nor does it shove its message down the audience's throat. In all, a good inspirational film with Christian elements and an accomplished cast.

The Ultimate Gift Movie

What a fantastic and wonderful movie. I can;t say ther eis anything about this movie I did not enjoy. I read the book fist which I absolutely loved! The movie, was, for once, better than the book because it showed what he did with the money after he inherited it. It makes you think about your life and the life of your childrn and what you can do to help your children think like this young man did after completing each task. There is also a phenomenal curiculum which you can purchase that goes through each lesson learned which you complete with your family. It is at www.onceuponafamily.com/4gr8kids. Look under the Ultimate Gift section to read more about it and to purchase the curriculm through the website. Enjoy teaching your childen the importance of a day, family, love, friends etc.....Read full review...

Wonderful, heart-warming, family based movie!

This movie brings out a wide array of emotions from the viewer. I started my emotional roller-coaster ride with hatred for the snobbish man. He was smug, non-caring, and greedy when his hard working father had passed away, all he cared about was his share of the money! As the movie progressed, his heart was softened by the encounter with the little girl who he later found out was dying. This young girl brought out the good side of the man. It was only when he stepped away from his rich life and worked for a living, that he saw the family whom he was a part of as snobs and unfeeling greedy monsters. The love of the mother and daughter was a great heart tugger too! The girl became a match maker, which in the beginning, didn't seem to work. But the common bond, the love of the little girl, became their means for reaching out to each other for comfort. The generosity of the man he had become was heart warming. Only when he gave it all away, did he realize that he had gained it all. A great ending, that I wished had gone on longer!Read full review...

The Ultimate Gift

I saw this movie first as a trailer on a rental DVD & just from the few minutes of viewing I knew I had to get this movie. It is a story that not only will you never forget but hopefully that will change your life. My children & I watched it together & were all deeply touched not only by the story in the movie (which doesn't have a dull moment in it) but also by how it made us value our own lives & the gifts that God has given us. This is a great movie to help put some perspective into our roles within society & how we all have the ability to work hard, dream, really live,& give back to others. I VERY highly recommend this movie to anyone, but especially to the young.Read full review...

The value of love, the ultimate gift.

A friend loaned me their copy and I watched it 2 or 3 times before returning and then decided I had to have my own copy. Since I have purchased it, I've watched it only once, so far, but it is fresh each time I watch it.

There truly is an ultimate gift, and I believe that too many are too busy to realize that it is more than money (wood, hay & stubble.) There only one thing more precious than the love of family, and that is the love of God and a relationship with Jesus.

The story starts out about a rich kid, who is like the rest of his family, a bunch of spoiled brats that didn't have to work one day in their life for what they had. And thru trials and tribulations, the rich kid learns truth, a work ethic, and many other gifts, and then one that surpasses them all, and reaches beyond the grave, the gift of love.

Can't imagine anyone watching this and not being affected by it. I have loved watching this and am ready to watch again.

Excellent family movie, clean, great message, funny!

A spoiled rich kid gets tested for the "ultimate gift" which could be millions in an inheritance, but he won't know unless he completes each of a series of tasks set out by his late grandfather. Each test makes him a little less selfish and more aware of how blessed he actually is. Along the way he meets several characters that he truly comes to care about, and also discovers who he actually is inside. This movie was fantastic-it tugs at the heartstrings but also provides some humorous moments as a rich kid struggles to get by in what we all call the normal world. He discovers a lot about the world that he just took for granted. Great movie to watch with young kids, helps them to appreciate what they have, and also gives hope for the potential to do good in the world. I loved it!Read full review...

Life is about what you give....not what you receive.

I wanted my own copy of this movie so I could watch it time and again and also share it with family and friends. It is a wonderful, moving story about a spoiled young man who discovers true friends and kindness to others change his reasons for living. I guarantee you will have tears in your eyes through half of this film, but it will leave much warmth in your heart and soul forever. It offers good lessons for living, and wonderful performances by Bill Cobbs, James Garner, and Lee Merriweather and several young, new and upcoming actors whom you won't forget. Since I first saw it at the theater, I have been recommending it to others more than any other movie I have ever seen. Don't miss this one!Read full review...

An Entertaining Family Movie

"The Ultimate Gift" is a story of a wealthy young man who learns the meaning of life by following a set of tasks his recently deceased grandfather has set out for him, at the end of each he receives a gift. Along his way, he learns the true value of friends and hard work and gets the Ultimate Gift.

The Ultimate Gift is based on a book and I think the book would probably be better than the movie (most books are). The story definitely has a good moral, and you can relate with Jason Stevens as he goes through his spiritual journey. The movie is entertaining to watch and is one of the few family movies that you can actually feel good at the end. Overall I would recommend seeing the movie.

Excellent movie!

This is a great movie with a wonderful story. We rented it a couple of weeks ago, but I bought I copy so I could watch it any time. I don't remember how I found this movie, but I sure am glad I did. It has a great cast. I especially love Abigail Breslin. She's adorable and hilarious. In the special features she says that she gets away with treating adults with a some attitude that she wouldn't really try in real life. The movie has plenty of humor mixed into the story of a spoiled, rich kid (Drew Fuller) learning some life changing lessons as he tries to find out what his rich grandfather (Jim Garner) left him in his will.Read full review...

The Ultimate in Movie Entertainment

I rented this movie one time and the disc was so badly scratched/damaged (from lots of use, presumably!!) that it skipped throughout the movie making it nearly impossible to watch; however, the parts that I did see were enough to make me know that this movie was a "keeper" and one for the small collection I own. It proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is possible to make quality movies without swear words, fornication, violence and the other trash that seems so prevalent in even some of the so-called "family-friendly" movies. Bravo on a job well done by all involved. The acting is professional as well. You will definitely not be disappointed. You may even find yourself adding it to your own collection.Read full review...
