Revenge is Sweet
This is so much better than reading the actual play. Script writers change the ending from the book and it is so much better for it. Bergman and Quinn are perfectly cast. The ending will leave you speechless. I can't rate this high enough. 5*s. If I have any reservations it is that this movie was originally made in English, then dubbed into a foreign language, then redubbed back into English. The company that did it did a lousy job. Sometimes the dialogue doesn't match up to their mouth movements. They also did a terrible job on the aspect to ratio of the picture. There is a wide black edge around the whole picture, so you are essentially watching only a small picture inside a big black box. I really wish Criterion or the Film Foundation would restore this masterpiece to its original condition. Baring that, this is still a movie worth watching and will stay with you long afterwards.Read full review...

It's Time to Pay the Piper
This is my favorite movie that Ingrid Bergman ever made, possibly because this role of Karla is such a departure for her. The film is about a woman (Karla) who was kicked out of a country because she was pregnant without benefit of marriage and she is coming back for a visit to get some things set straight with her former lover (Serge Miller), played by Anthony Quinn, and with the members of the town. This is Ingrid Bergman as Karla, as you have never seen her before. This is a fantastic movie and I recommend it highly.Read full review...
