worth picking up

when an actor spends years playing an iconic role, it can be difficult for him to achieve success with another part, but daniel radcliffe is intent on proving there's life after harry potter. in his first major post potter role, radcliffe plays arthur kipps, and early 20th century solicitor hired to liquidate a creepy estate in the english countryside. arthur isn't the ideal person to be working in a large, spooking manor because he already has mortality on his mind. his wife died in childbirth leaving him deeply scarred and concerned about the future of his 4 year old young son. nevertheless, arthur charges forward, performing his duties as increasingly strange things happen around him. first, arthur sees a frightening woman in black hanging around the deserted manor house. then,. a local child dies, reinforcing a legend that a ghost is avenging the death of her son. radcliffe is good in the leading role, proving he can break free of the harry potter chains as long as he has the right material to work with. it helps that director james watkins moves the action at a steady pace, making sure the film is both suspenseful and littered with unexpected scares. overall it's a winning ghost story that should help radcliffe transition to a new era.
overall a great movie but you gotta move past radcliffe who was in all of the harry potter movies. he did a good job in this movie and worth picking up and watching.Read full review...

The woman in black

This is one of the best horror movies ever made in my opinion. It's dark and creepy, with believable characters and a good plot. No cheese at all in this film. One particular scene that really freaked me out was when the woman in black came out of a dark corner of a room behind the unsuspecting main character (Daniel Radcliff) and FLOATED across the room toward him. WOW, gave me chills and that's not an easy thing to do. It's right up there with the scene from " The Sentinel" when the dead father walked out from behind the door. Good for Daniel Radcliffe fans, bad for horror fans.

I'm being generous and giving the movie two (2) out of five (5) stars, mainly because of the acting only, which was spot on. The Woman in Black is labeled as a horror movie, which happens to be the one thing it just does NOT deliver on. You'll find the movie to be quite boring, with more talking than anything, and occasionally throwing in something to give you a jump.

The movie is based around cheap scares which for horror fans is just not enough.

By the end of the movie, you're left with a bitter taste, and if you've paid attention, many plot holes that go unanswered.Read full review...

If you like old style Horror Flicks - then this is a must see.

I really enjoyed this movie. I am a huge fan of old horror flicks from the 40s - 60s - so this was a great flick for me. It uses much of the old style of making horror movies. It is great that Hammer was involved with this project.
