Ralph Richardson outdoes even Dudley Moore and Peter Cook.

I had to weigh in to counter the one star rating left by one guy. This is a good exposition of the Dudley Moore and Peter Cook comedic style, embedded in a movie more elaborately plotted than their own movies, which are sort of just collections of skits. "Bedazzled" is another example of their work, but here we have lots more going on. The Ralph Richardson character almost runs away with the movie. WELL worth watching, but, ... and I agree a bit with the one-star critic ... if I were you, I would simply turn the movie off near the end, where the silly chase scene is worked in. It is so far below the quality of the rest of the movie that it almost ruins it.Read full review...

Wrong Director, Wrong Screenwriter

This movie had a lot going for it. A veteran actor like Sir Ralph Richardson, and Michael Caine, Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, and Peter Sellers at the beginning of their careers. And the idea of a Tontine, a survivor's pact with the last standing member inheriting over 100,000 pounds, is rife with possibilities. But an extremely weak script and dull, plodding direction just ruins what could have been a very clever comedy. One of the least funny "comedies" I have ever seen, unfortunately.Read full review...

Super Fun Movie

The movie takes the short novel by Robert Louis Stevenson and expands it into a delightful romp. Wonderful first rate stars.

So Wrong It's Right

A farce that never disappoints. Great comedic turns by some of greatest actors of the last century and this one too. The unforgettable Peter Sellers as the disgraced doctor has a couple brief moments that are as hilarious as any of his Inspector Clouseau turns. Dudley Moore and Peter Cook are in their prime with a particularly fine turn in the train crash aftermath. The immortal classic actors John Mills and John Gielgud display their comedic chops in all their scenes: look for Gielgud playing the most clueless know-it-all ever. Michael Caine and Nanette Newman play the classic lovers, naive, foolish and sweet. The chase at the end is beautifully executed with hairsbreadth timing. This is truly one of the great farces!Read full review...

GREAT comedy-romance!

This movie epitomizes the mid-60's English comedy/romance is a sweet, nostalgic way that will never be duplicated. The all-star cast was funny but sweet in a Dickens sort of way. If you love British comedy mid-to-late 60's comedy and films set in Victorian England, this is an absolute treasure.Read full review...
