One of the best comedies ever! The Blues Brothers

What can I say about a classic! When virtually everyone was alive to watch good comedy. A must have, if you like old school SNL. BUY IT. You're on a mission.....lol

Worth getting for restored footage and documentary

This review is only about the content of the DVD version vs. the VHS. I watched this DVD with my usual dread of what "improvements" it would have from the original. When I fall in love with a movie, I want its DVD reissue to be identical to the VHS version. Editors seem unable to resist tinkering, though, and about half the DVD reissues I've watched have noticeable changes. Sometimes they're small enough to overlook, but much too often the changes are larger and ruin the movie for me. I've tossed out several DVD reissues and instead done my own VHS-to-DVD transfers, accepting reduced quality over a bad re-edit.

The Blues Brothers DVD has substantial edits, but for once they make the movie better. Segments that were cut to shorten total run time -- four or five complete scenes, many small snippets, and some longer snippets -- are restored. Nothing was cut. The soundtrack is remixed in a few places, which annoys me; to my ear the original was better. Some restorations add little to the movie, but none of them make it worse. Most of the restorations *do* enhance the movie, adding humor or rounding out the story. Best of all are the restorations to performances: more James Brown, dancing in the church, John Lee Hooker, Good Ole Boys, and the Brothers in the ballroom and in the slam. Alas, no more of Aretha, Ray, Cab, or Chaka Khan (her appearance was so fleeting, why did they put it in at all?). We can't have everything.

To top it off, the "Making Of" documentary, with the back story of the Blues Brothers (the characters and in real life), and the birth and making of the movie, is worth the purchase price on its own.

The characters are engaging, just do not drive in the likeness of Elwood.

You need a backup copy before everything is some stupid pay for download thing.

works great for the most part

For some reason the intro was stuck on the logo but I was able to get around the area.
It shipped fast and works great for the most part. Thanks. It goes well with my SNL collection.

IT'S THE BEST!!

Absolutely fabulous movie! It's hilarious and crazy! John Belushi and Dan Akroyd as Jake and Elwood deliver a fast-moving, nothing-you-would-expect-to-happen film. Total thumbs up!! It's a keeper, because you'll want to watch it again!Read full review...
