For the era this was made, the special effects were decent and the characters are interesting to watch. The plot does follow "For every positive, there is an equal and negative counterpart." I have no idea why this was my favorite movie when I was a child. Maybe it is just my fear of puppets, but as I watched this the other day, I found the mystics and the skeksis to be scary. I am not so sure this would be a good movie for my nieces and nephew. I would say the ideal demographic for this movie would be for the 7-10 years who like the pieces by Tolkien (The Hobbit).Read full review...

Ever since I was a small child, The Dark Crystal has been one of my favorite movies of all time. Henson was truly a genius and adding Oz to the mix has made this one of the classic fantasy movies of all time. The plotline is not your ordinary hodgepodge of characters thrown together with bright colors as is the norm in most children's tales. While not looking too deep into the film, you can really see the struggle between the two civilizations w/ the Gelflings caught in the middle. After having just since it for the first time in over 10 years, I can honestly say it still keeps my rapt attention. The Dark Crystal

This movie was a phenomenal fantasy film years ago, and it remains so today...It is a story of the division of good and evil combining to become whole, which is a reflection of us in general. We all have components of good and evil in us, and by combining the two, we become who we are as individuals. It keeps us in check. Neither entity is able to survive without the other. A bit melodramatic? perhaps, but think about it sometime. We have our conscience that helps our "evil" side from making poor/bad decisions. Our evil side can rear it's ugly head at times as well. This is an excellent family movie-a bit scary for real young ones, some scary creatures, but also some very cute, imaginative creatures too. It's worth seeing, I had been wanting to find it over the years and God bless e bay for the venue to accomplish that goal! It is a purchase well made!Read full review...
