large as life

this game is immense, you can literally spend a year playing it.
Thats also the bummer about it. its like life. so big and complicated without defined goals.
you have to master 10 skills to move about the game with any ease, so dont feel like you can just pick up and go. this game requires real work and time to play. forget about having a full tiome job and social life.Read full review...

Excellent Game for a Great Price!

On December 15th I purchased The Elder Scrolls IV for $7.01 plus $2.99 shipping for a total of $10. Within a few days, I had it in my mail box. So far, I only have a couple hours of play time in the game but I had played it previously several years ago when it first came out. In my personal opinion, I think the game is revolutionary, and way past its time even compared to now days releases.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released on March 20, 2007 by Bethesda Softworks accompanied by Havok, Speedtree, and Gamebryo. The game takes place in the region of Tamriel, where the gates of Oblivion of happened and demons pour out onto the land. It's your job to find the lost heir to the throne, and unravel the evil plans that threaten to destroy all of Tamriel.

The gameplay and menu layout is similar to that of Fallout 3, but in it's on way, kind of different and, in my opinion, better. As you play through the game, you can create and play as any character you could imagine as you roam through a world with stunning visuals that are years ahead of some modern games. The game holds its value better than most with easily over 100 hours with of play with many missions to execute and territories to explore.

Overall, the game is well worth it especially for what I paid for it. If you enjoy RPG games or enjoy games like Fallout 3, you'll definitely be able to appreciate this game.

The Perfect mix of Fighting and Role Playing EXCELLENT

I bought this game hoping to be entertained for a couple days since there aren't many new releases for the PS3. I'm not big into role playing games and was extremely skeptical. So far, I have 200+ hours of game play in it. The main game play mission is long enough and fun, but it is all the side missions that make this game. There are several factions you can join which give you even more missions to take on. I chose a fighting character, but even the Mage (magic) missions were fun. You can choose to be in a fighter's guild, mage guild, thieves guild, and many others. This game also has great graphics as a first person fighter. You can choose to do your combat in first person or third person. This game is amazing in my opinion, and that is coming from someone who really doesn't like role playing games. I liked Fable, but not much more than that. I can't wait until they release the expansion pack that is already available on the Xbox 360 and PC. Please don't buy this game if you don't have a lot of time to devote to it. If you do, it is worth it.Read full review...

Great Game

I just received this game the other day (it is Tuesday now), and I've already put 20+ hours into it. I haven't even scratched the surface yet. It is a great game, one of the best.

There are complaints that there are too many dark areas. These dark areas happen when you go into caves and at night. They should be dark, that is why you have a torch.

The first person fighting with a sword is great. It is much smoother than I had anticipated. On first person shooter games, I often get queasy. This hasn't happened to me in this game. Also, there are complaints that you can't see some foes when they attack from behind because 1st person. I don't think this is a bad thing, if anything it makes it more realistic. If you were the adventurer and was attacked from behind, you'd have to move around to get a handle on what is attacking you.

Must buy for PS3

I recently bought this game "Elder Scrolls IV" for my PS3 and must say that this is one of the best RPG's for this system. The graphics are amazing and the load time is much faster than on any of the other systems. Honestly the only reason why I wouldn't buy this game is if I either a. Didn't own a PS3 or b. Didn't love hours of fun and entertainment. This game will keep you on the edge of your seat while you travel through vast "and very detailed" landscape. You can follow the main course of the game or you can just simply play. Do all of the sidequests and get all of the best armor and weapons before you even go back to the main story line. All in all this is one of my favorite games I have ever played on the PS3. I suggest that anyone who likes RPG's get this game. I've logged in over 100 hours of playtime and still have many more hours to go. This is a MUST BUY for the PS3.Read full review...

Must Have, Even for the Non-RPG lovers

In my opinion this game should be everyone’s first Playstation 3 game. This game will keep you occupied for a minimum 200 hours. Especially since there are not many “decent” games released for the Playstation 3. I have friends who played the 360 version, for over 150 hours and are still not close to finishing the game. However do not be discouraged from the hours; it’s a really fun game. Personally I dislike RPG games, such as Final Fantasy, however Oblivion is different. It’s not repetitive, and does not take forever to walk to one place to another (aka Final Fantasy). You can view your map and basically go to a “location” meaning a house or building, not anywhere on the map. However this is good enough to get you from city to city. Another great feature is that you can fast forward the game by going to sleep. Each hour you sleep is couple of seconds in real time. So if you need to be somewhere in a delayed time, you don’t have to just wait around, which you have to do in similar games. The game’s detail is mind boggling, considering how large the game is. The best part is that the loading time on the Playstation 3, is not much, it loads as you walk, unless you walk into a building. Even that, it takes a couple of seconds to load.

Positive
- Amazing Graphics
- 200+ hours of game play
- Great even for the non RPG game lovers
- Play the game “your” way, meaning you will not finish the game the same way your friend did.
- Not as repetitive as you think it is
- Quests are unique and all different

Negative
- Picking up items sometimes gets you in trouble, and you have to go to jail. There is no way running away.
- Lock picking is annoying, (you have to pick locks to get through certain doors and treasure boxes)
- On the box it says you need 4GBs of space on your hard drive to play, if you have a 20 GB PS3, that 20% of your hard rive space.
- Nothing else comes to mind, other than Oblivion is more expensive then the regular Playstation 3 game.

One of the greatest game ever!!!

This is an amazing game with deep gameplay and excellent environment. There is so much stuff to do, that I don't even know where to start. You can be almost whatever you want in the game. The land is so huge that sometimes you rather be walking just to admire the land and fauna that this game deserves. The only little thing that I kinda of didn't like the much it's that fact that to level up your stats is that you have to really look for the enemies and search a lot. The arena is a good way to start to leveling up, but it takes a lot of time. This game is really, truly next generation. And If you really want to experience next-gen. RPG this is the one and also expect to put up so many hours on this game.Read full review...
