I saw this movie when I was seven and fell in love. I didn't hear about the game until I actually did a google search and found it some time ago. The game is very cool. The scenery reminds me of the movie with all my favorite characters. I felt like a little kid again. There are some good times and bad ones. The controls are a little confusing at times but you'll get the hang of it. I would recommend this to anyone who loves Jack, Sally, Zero and the rest of the gang and who loves a good mild violence fight.Read full review...

I am the Pumpkin King!

Oogie's Back, and this time he has a whole army of monsters and traps to throw at the Pumkin King.

The story takes place with Jack trying to find a way to make Hallween even better. Dr. Finklestein gives Jack his newest invention called the Soul Robber; it is a green shape-changing rubber hand-like device which Jack can use to grab things and combat foes. Jack goes off in search of ideas, and while he's gone, Oogie Boogie and his three henchmen Lock, Shock, and Barrel, take over Halloween Town and force Dr. Finklestein to build an army of monsters to help Oogie in taking over the remainging hollidays to become the Seven Holidays King.

As far as gameplay is concerned, this is primarily an adventure game, with alot of fighting and a lot of singing. Throughout the game, Jack unlocks various costumes, including the Pumpkin Kig with fire-related abilities,and Santa Jack, who combats his enemies with Halloween-style presents. The music for the game is just reworded versions of the songs from the movie, and may get boring after a while. Though much of the game is three-dimensional, to defeat many of the bosses, you have to complete a series of button-pressing while Jack sings. The dance sequences can be extremely difficult at times, but are amusing.

You are rated for each level with an S, A, B, C, or D, with S being the highest. You get an overall score, called your Nightmare Rank, as well as being rated on the time you took to complete the level, the amount of damage you took, your highest combo count, and how many Exclamation Points you got, which you get from either completing the dance sequence or taunting your enemies.

There is a lot of bonus content in the game, which is viewed in Jack's house, including music, and collecting figurines on the various characters and monsters in the game.

Overall, the game is a lot of fun, but most of it is easy to get through. The music can be annoying at times, but the game itself is wonderful. My favorite part of it is torching the bad guys with the Pumkin King, which is the scarecrow Jack dressed up as in the beginning of the movie.Read full review...

Stop singing.. please

If you are a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan this game will seem great but by half way thru it will test your resolve to love it.

This game has a few really aggravating points. Firstly this game is very very short it has alot of levels but 90% of them can be beat within a few moments.

Secondly and worst is in this game when you meet up with an enemy or sally you(jack) and them launch into song that just will not quit.These songs are sung to the tunes of the ones in the film but all the words are different and they end up sounding cheesy instead of cute.
You(jack) and your enemy will sing thru a whole battle and so know that if it does take you 10+ mins to beat them you will have to endure the corny singing over and over thru the battle..

For Example: It took my Husband and I 45 mins to get the doc's real brain in his head, so for 45 mins we had to listen to them singing to each other.

As for my third problem with this game, It's minor and may just be me.
But 95% of this game is in black and white and a lil brown so looking at such stark colors to play for a period of time can cause a real headache/eye strain.
I couldn't take it for very long.. maybe 30 mins at a time..

So this game gets a D+ for two big Nightmare Before Christmas fans.

Fans of the Movie will Love the Game!

If you love the movie then you will love the game!

This game is great. The imagery is fabulous. Yes, a lot of it is darker colors as one reviewer put it.. however, the movie was the same way. Halloween Town is not joyful and merry... it's dark and gloomy. The graphics are very true to the movie. I loved exploring the various movie sets. Tons of fun.

As far as the music goes.. that does grow a bit old. If you are like me and can't necessarily beat the baddies on the first try then you will be hearing a LOT of music!

Overall though, the game is fun. It looks like the movie and for the most part sounds like it too. The controls are easy to get the hang of.

Fun to play and get combos, you can go back to previous chapters to get higher scores (with all of your new/upgraded gear) and builds music into fights (and is the best way to deal damage)
