Best film on Pearl Harbor.

The best film done on the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. It shows the events from both the American and Japanese viewpoints, using historical accuracy. It pulls no punches, showing mistakes and errors on both sides. It has a stellar cast, including James Whitmore, Martin Balsam, Jason Robards, and a ton of character actors we've seen in other movies. It also doesn't clutter the movie with totally unnecessary side stories of romance, etc. The action sequences are done terrifically, without CGI, which won the film an Oscar. Comprehensive

As a pre-kindergartener, I, along with my family, lived through the attack on Pearl Harbor. Since then, I have been interested in the attack and how it was portrayed in films. This one is the best film made to date on the attack. It appears to be based on Prof. Gordon Prenge's historical books, specifically "At Dawn We Slept." The details of the film are clearly the result of careful hiastorical research, and the film is a co-production, with a United States crew filming the American side leading up to the conflict, and a Japanese crew filming the Nipponese story. The Japanese segments are subtitled.

A few points in the film were inserted to educate the audience. For instance, neither officer assigned to the MAGIC decrypts of the top-secret Japanese PURPLE messages had to explain to the other how the arrangement worked, but without the explanation, the audience wouldn't appreciate what was happening when a message was intercepted.

Most Pearl Harbor films go easy on the preparation and the attack, but this one provides a really good perspective for viewers who want to know the dynamics leading up to the United States' entry into World War II.Read full review...

Best Movie about Pearl Harbor

Being in the fourth grade when Pearl Harbor was attacked and having read several books about the event, I know that this is far and above the best movie about this disaster. It is a very accurate documentary-like presentation, acted out by both American and Japanese actors. There is no love story or any other distractions (like in some of the other more- recently-made movies about this battle). It is not only very accurate but also wonderfully filmed.
