STEVE EARL: "Towns"

Friends, this one is AWESOME!! It's "My man" Steve Earl's tribute to his hero, Towns Van Zant... Towns is a hero & mentor to countless singers, story tellers, and song writers from all walks of life. Not just music, because the man was a living ledgend. And anyone who knew anything picked up on that real quick! Towns was just that kind of guy. You could feel his presence a few seconds before he arrived.

STEVE EARL has payed Towns the finest tribute one friend can give another. Here, he performs the original music of Towns perfectly & seemingly effortlessly. His love & admoreation for his friend puncuate every word here. One thought comes to mind....Masterpiece!! From "Pancho & Lefty" all the way through,_________ Every word & note are golden. Unless you just Hate Music in a general sort of way, this CD has it's place in your collection.

STEVE EARL is a complex man who has always strived & succeded to dodge labels. Producers & Record Companys have tried to classify Steve's music as Country, Rock, Gospel, Contemporary & Traditional. Every one fits, but one alone one can singley describe Steves contribution and the body of work he's thus far blessed us with. God Bless Steve Earl.

Well.... I think it's pretty clear that this one gets a big "2 THUMBS UP" from this reviewer!! You can't go wrong when you choose this one for your next purchace. It's for everyone!....Thanks, Mike Frazier in Greentown

ALL PREVIOUS REVIEWS ARE "RIGHT ON"

Steve Earle sure got this one right, About 7 years ago, my friend Dennis Ferrell introduced me to Texas Music, the newer group of Outlaws, Steve Earle, Guy Clark and the late Townes Van Zandt. Dennis gave me REAR VIEW MIRROR, the definitive Townes album. Earle's covers are Townes' songs done the way that Townes taught them to Earle. Reviewers' much more talented than I unanimously gave kudos to Steve Earle for his efforts with the music. I add mine to that list. Boffo stuff.Read full review...

Steve Earle does the songs of the best songwriter ever.

I´ve been a huge Steve Earle fan ever since I first heard demos of his songs for his debut record "Guitar Town" in the mid 80´s. I´ve followed him ever since and have all his records. This is not his best, but since he´s doing covers of the best songwriter ever, Townes van Zandt, you can´t go wrong, and any Steve Earle record is worth at least four stars in my book.Read full review...

An excellent selection of Townes' songs

This is an excellent selection of Townes music although the music and words are distorted in part of "Lungs". I really enjoy the CD on the whole.

Worth more than just a listen.

I really like the tone of this album. If you're a Steve Earle fan, you'll like it.If you're Townes fan, you'll appreciate it. It isn't the old rockabilly sound of the Copperhead Road album, it more the new Steve Earle sound.Something you can sip a whiskey with.Read full review...
