A Mediocre forgettable Movie...

Okay this movie is horrible but I purchased it to pair with my copy of Rifftraxs. If you don't know who or what Rifftrax's is it is three guys who make fun of movies and are absolutely hilarious. It is like Mystery Science Theatre but better. This movie is not good at all and Michael Bay's sweeping shots are almost nauseating to look at. Great to make fun of though. Read full review...

Transformers marketed for kids, disappointed with FOUL LANGUAGE and SEXUAL INNUENDOS in movie

Transformers are marketed towards kids; however, we were extremely disappointed because this movie has foul language and sexual innuendos throughout. We have found that the first Transformers movie is a little better than the others in the series. Movies Dark of the Moon and Revenge of the Fallen are far worse in terms of inappropriate content for children's viewing, than Transformers and Age of Extinction. It is very disappointing that the Transformers movies appeal to kids, but are littered with such foul language, sexual innuendo, and inappropriate content. We wish the filmmakers would have made the Transformers movies kid friendly. Read full review...

Beyond our wildest imagination

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (screenplay and story) have outdone themselves with their take on the Transformers (For the purists out there, Orci and Kurtzman were able to simplify matters by consolidating the proverbial “seat of power” – The All Spark Cube – into one gigantic cube that conveniently has the ability to transform itself into a tiny cube for logistics purposes (In the 80’s cartoon, a number of the Decepticons had the ability to generate cubes which they “fill with energy,” creating “energon cubes.” as well as give each of the Transformers the power of Teletran 1 (basically the ability to select their earthly “disguise” on their own (e.g., Camaro, truck, helicopter, cell phone, etc.)

The Transformers Movie was generally an entertaining, but lacked sufficient emphasis to develop any of the characters outside of Optimus Prime (18-Wheeler Truck), Baracade (Police Car), and Bumblebee (Camaro). When they transformed to their robotic forms, it was pretty difficult to determine who was an Autobot from a Decepticon. Towards the end of the film, when both the Autobots and Decepticons were locked in battle, an unfamiliar audience couldn’t tell who was Ratchet from Bone Crusher, Frenzy from Jazz, Iron Hide from Devastator, etc.

In addition, the finale fight sequence was a “migraine waiting to happen” as Michael Bay placed a lot of emphasis on the speed and agility of the Transformers. It’s funny really; you have the Autobots, that value human life and the Decepticons who don’t really care, one way or another. In that battle (though not depicted), I am pretty sure their were human casualties…How could their not be, the Transformers were going through buildings as if it were tin foil. Well, just a thought.

The Transformers Movie is one of those films that you watch once (due to the potential migraine issue) and maybe after a couple of years, you can wipe away the dust of your copy from you DVD collection and reminisce that Bay’s film may have truly been “beyond our wildest imagination.”

Transformers Come Again

In a revisit to the original Transformers 80's cartoon series, this rendition of Transformers is packed with action, car chases, fantastic special effects, and a respectable story line. This movie is amazing on the big screen and delights men and boys alike! :-) A slight romantic interest by the teen-aged hero helps bring depth to the story. Although the focus of the story is the transforming of the Transformers, it is worth a watch (and repeating). For parents monitoring what their children see, I would reccommend a parents-only preview before watching as a fmaily (as some sensuality and character behavior may be offensive). One of the two original Optimus Prime voices is used as the Optimus Prime voice in this first Transformers live-action movie (2007); ironically, this voice actor has also been the voice for all Disney's modern versions of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh). Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith from the Matrix trilogy) does an amazing job as the growling voice of Megatron.Read full review...

Rating The DVD

Rating the DVD.... Not The Film itself.

The DVD did not come with any bonus features.

The lack of those bonus features did not help the fact
that the Film just did not come across as well on the
small screen as it would have on the Big Screen at the
theater.

That said, the film was OK in that it had a story, plenty
of action due to Michael Bay directing it, plus a lot of
special effects that did not hamper the movie's flow.

Sometimes CGI doesn't add to a movie, but detracts from it,
i.e. the Hulk's first film. In this case the CGI flowed with
the characters and and kept the story going.

There is a sequel to this film in the works. Would suggest
that you take in the sequel at the theater as films of this
nature need to be seen on the Big Screen!

Epic Production Honestly -- Special-Effects Glory !!!!

There is no denying Director Michael Bay ('Bad Boys', 'The Rock', 'Armaggedon', 'Pearl Harbor', 'Bad Boys II') has a talent for "Over-The-Top", CGI-enhanced theatrics.
After misfiring with 'The Island', Bay got back-to-roots with "Transformers", a high-octane symphony of machine battling, explosions and itense cinematography; all the while blowing everything to pieces.
"Transformers" opens when U.S. Soldiers on a base in Qatar find themselves under a sudden and merciless assault. The foe is eventually revealed to be Extraterrestrial; part of the Murderous Decepticon Robot Race. In a powerfully effective scene it gets the movie off hard.
Then begins the introduction of single teenager, Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). Visiting a used car lot with his Dad (Kevin Dunn), the high school nerd falls in love with a rusting Camaro. The hunk of junk has a strange quirk: its radio has a habit of turning on spontaneously to tacky old pop songs that oddly befit whatever situation Sam finds himself in.
But when Sam thinks that someone has stolen the heap; he tracks it to a rail yard, where he discovers it's most bizarre kink when it transforms into a robot.
Though the Soldiers in Qatar; and Sam back in the 'Burbs' don't realize it yet, they are the early unwitting recruits into the Robot Wars between the Evil Decepticons and the Benevolent Autobots.
The Decepticons prefer to transform into Helicopters and Cop Cars. The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen), have a much more refined aesthetic, preferring to transmute into items like Sam's "bitchin'" Camaro. They also have far more expressive personalities.
Motivation also divides the Robots. The Decepticons want to lay waste to the Planet in their quest to take over the Universe. Optimus Prime, on the other hand, makes pronouncements about how the Autobots, hope to "Bring Peace to this Planet,". Of course, the Autobots' idea of promoting peace is to throw down with the Decepticons in the middle of Downtown Los Angeles, destroying buildings, cars, and anything else that gets caught in the middle., in Apocolyptic Cinematographic Glory.
Extremely entertaining in it's explosive way, it follows a formula as successful as 'Godzilla' while being as up-to-date as the 'Terminator' Series. Thanks also to LaBeouf's grounded performance; who helps continue to add significant human characters in "Transformers".
Good To Have You Back, Michael Bay.... And The "Big Productions" reminiscent of our first flirts with "Independance Day", "Armageddon", "The Day After Tomorrow", "War of the Worlds".... and more !!

!!!Movie Surprise!!!

When I first caught wind of this movie I was less then interested because of the obvious cult following and the fear of it being more of a children's movie rather then an entertaining venture. A portion of the movie was filmed about 20 miles from my house so I took it upon myself to at least take a look at it and of coarse to my surprise it wa a good movie. The element of comedy lightened and entertained me and the violence and ferocity of the movies negative characters makes the movie more realistic then a bunch of silly laughed cartoons. Honestly the only reason I didn't give this one s 5 is because of the blatant product placement, but Michigans terrible economy could use the extra advertisement.Read full review...

Transformers' owns the special effects.

No one can deny that the special effects in this movie are awe inspiring however the storyline really could have used some work. Too much comic relief was used when just heart racing suspense would have been much more effective. There also was a highly inappropriate (although hilarious) scene where some very adult things are discussed. For this scene alone i would deffinitely shy parents away from letting their kids watching it without a remote control on hand.

In Summary: Graphics-5, Story-3, Acting-4, Overall-4

More than Meets the Eye!

Love it! I am a girl, so I never had transformers or even saw the old movie, I of course knew what they were though (i had the girlie version - "Sweet Secrets" - gems that "transformed" into little people or animals!!) so I saw this with my husband (a major fan!) and I liked it! I did not think that the sexy-ness was necessary to the story line & even drug it down a bit - I especially hated the fact that Sam's parents find a pretty young girl in his room at night and are pleased that their son has done so well! (a little creepy! and if it was a girl with a boy in her room, I doubt it would have been appreciated!). Anyways, Bumblebee is soo cute & now I want a new camaro too (j/k!) but he is adorable! Men & boys alike will love this movie! The fight scenes are the best!Read full review...

Just another poor attempt at capturing 2nd Gen market

Like most "kids of the 80's", I watched the animated series "Transformers" every day, and yeah...I really liked it (even though it was a 'boys show'), but I also loved Thundercats and G.I.Joe as well. Cartoons of the 80's were good stuff...interesting characters, great writing and engaging enough to keep us kids fans of the shows for over 20 years.

When I first heard that a Transformers live action movie was being made, I was a bit excited. Then I started seeing the trailers and first commercials for the film and I got a bad feeling. I am usually pretty good at 'feeling out' good and bad movies.

The Transformers movie came out and I didn't go to see it. Then it came on video and I didn't rent it. It was available on my computer and I didn't watch it. I STILL would not have seen it, except someone bought me the DVD for Christmas...knowing how much I loved 80's cartoons and thinking I'd like this movie. Well...their heart was in the right place, anyway.

Simply said, THIS LIVE-ACTION, 2007 TRANSFORMERS MOVIE HAS IN MUCH IN COMMON WITH THE "80'S TRANSFORMERS SERIES" AS THE MOVIE "GREASE" HAS IN COMMON WITH A COOKING SHOW.

Basically, this movie is ok for kids age 13-18. I have heard some glowing reviews from kids who were too young to have ever seen the original 1980's series. I have also heard some "okay" reviews also from the late 40-something parents of these teenagers, who mostly were impressed by the computer-generated visuals the film relies so heavily on.

Yes...we live in an age where computers can create amazing visual effects in movies. Yup, they sure can. The integration between real live actors and computer created characters and effects is really something...but at what cost? The cost is the plot...the story-telling...and yes, the acting too. A very weak story at the cost of amazing visual effects. If you don't mind that, then sure...this is a great movie. As for me...I guess I am an old-fashioned 30-year old, and I actually do care about things like a good plot and great writing.

I am sorry, but I cannot recommend this movie. To fans of the original series, I would have to think you would be quite disappointed. To those who were too young to have watched the original, I don't think this movie is really very good to waste your time and money on. Do yourself a favor go buy the original 1980's animated tv series if you want to watch some Transformers.
