Hilarious Movie!

Hadn't seen this in years, and really needed a good laugh. The acting was perfect for this very unique comedy. No pretense (except the intended pretense for the characters roles), just fun.

Didn't get what the description says I was getting.

I thought I was getting a Blu-ray with all the special features and everything but all I basically got was the movie. I bought the director's cut Blu-ray specifically for the special features. The special features option on the menu can't even be highlighed with the remote. I bought this specifically for the commentary from the actors. All I got basically was a movie with a case cover that has Chinese writing all over it which was not shown in the picture when I bought it. Read full review...

A fun adventure

The Directors Cut didn't add or improve the film, but that is not to say that the film wasn't good to begin with. I enjoyed this film a lot and I especially liked the way Tom Cruise dominated in all of his scenes. Stiller once again plays the bumbling idiot that we all love, bringing back memories of zoolander (another fun film by stiller). Jack Black has an unfortunate role that doesnt have a chance to shine or really be memorable. Downey does an excellent job however and nearly steals the show.
For anyone who is looking for a good time, this is the film for you. If you already have this film or are only thinking about buying it for the directors cut, then I would stick with what you have. There is nothing worthy added in to the directors cut of the film, but added clarity of blu ray may be enough to entice others. The alternate ending though leaves you thanking that they went the route that ended up in the theatrical cut as well.Read full review...

Hilarious Slapstick Referential Comedy

One of my favorite comedies with a great set of cast: Ben Stiller, Jack Black and other famous actors who play their role really well. This movie does a great job poking fun at popular movies and various politically correct themes or social norms, its quite hilarious if you catch all the subtle references. I catch at least one new joke every time I watch this movie. And now that I got it on Blu-ray I can see and hear more of the jokes. It is a great movie to put on while doing other menial tasks. Even the Previews are Hilarious!! Satan's Alley...

You have to watch the previews during what is usually the time to introduce upcoming films by the studio, but they were ingenious by opeining with spoofs of films played by the actors portrayed in the Tropic Thunder Movie. There were some hilarious parts where I caught myself laughing out loud, which is the true mark of a great comedy. Robert Downey Jr. was fantastic in this film and played the role perfectly. Rude, witty, and ballsy

Starting with the best fake-trailers this side of Grindhouse, TROPIC THUNDER develops into the most uniquely wacky blend of satire/action/ and gross-out I've ever seen. At first it appears to be a straight-up spoof on popular war films, then it becomes a film within a film, then an attack on Hollywood and the film industry in general. Also present are some rather shocking (and hilarious) sight gags (exploding film-crew members, the brutal slaughter of an endangered species) that managed to catch everyone off guard (yet not offend them).

The main reason TROPIC THUNDER works so well though is it's stellar ensemble cast. You have the likes of Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr, Jack Black, Jay Baruchel, Steve Coogan, and Nick Nolte all turning in terrific comedic performances that they obviously had fun with. Tom Cruise gives the extended cameo of the year as a studio executive, while Tobey Maguire and a slew of other actors make notable appearances. Ultimately it is Downey Jr. who steals almost every scene as the platoon's very white, African-American squad leader.

Rude, witty, and ballsy, TROPIC THUNDER is a great time at the movies. It's hard finding worth-while large budget comedies these days, but DIRECTOR Ben Stiller, supported by a strong cast and a great premise, has proved himself to be the right man for the task.Read full review...

A hoot of a comedy.

I really don't like comedies because many of them are stupid and appeal to the lowest entertainment mentality. But Tropic Thunder with The Big Lebowski are two of my favorites. When I first watched Tropic Thunder so many years ago, I didn't realize Downy was the black actor acting at acting.
