Turok: Rumble in the Jungle

Pros: 1. Stealth kills with bow and knife. This is one of the best and most challenging parts of the game. 2. Intelligent AI. Enemies are constantly trying to flank you. This game is tough even on Normal setting. 3. The silly little awards you win for certain kills. For example, in the underground base I steathily approached three MG soldiers, then tossed a grenade in the middle of their meeting. After all three soldiers expired, the game awarded me a "5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BOOM" award. If you kill the T-rex with your knife, you receive a "Big Game Dino Hunter" award. Also, if you pin an MG soldier to the wall with an arrow, you will receive an award. These awards don't help you finish the game or give you power-ups, but it is fun to win them.
4. Gorgeous jungle graphics. It is so primal to be running around the lush foliage at night attacking and being attacked by unseen enemies.

Cons: 1. Excessive blood and gore. If you stab a dinosaur, blood squirts everywhere, and then the body quivers and twitches. It is even more graphic if you kill one with a grenade or sticky bomb. Body parts fly everywhere, then flop around on the ground.
2. Extremely foul, pervasive language (including God d-mn, sh-t). As much as I like this game, the language will be the reason I get rid of it. There is too much profanity and cursing.

The online play is decent, but not as good as Call of Duty 4. However, it has interesting team activities such as War Games that pits Whiskey Company against Wolf Pack.

Turok (PS3)

I originally had a Turok game on N64, back in the day, which was a bitter disappointment. However this game is 1000% better. If you are into darkroom gaming as I am,from the begining of the game you will love the games setting. A volcanic, flesh eating dinosaur planet overrun with villianous mercenary troops.. All of which are after you and your team relentlessly for 14 levels of violent action. The weapons selection has something for everyone. I have played the game twice once with heavy weapons and the other with light stealthy weapons. The only exception is when you have to beat the larger dinosaurs which need to be thought out and the correct weapon must be used. The only problem with the game as I saw it was that there was not enough confrontations throught the game with the antagonist. You only get to fight him at the games end with a rather dull knife fight.. The story line however opens the door for a Turok 2, because you are left wanting more from this character and look forward to his development.... I hope they follow with a game based on his native american heritage... Buy this game if you get a chance, it's great for a weekend of action.Read full review...

TUROK: Klingon for "Shut off that damn backgrnd music!"

Turok PS3 is pretty much the same as the XBOX 360 and PC versions,.. well 'ugly much' the same.
While it retains the basic storyline, it is inferior in graphic detail and textures and has a jerky slowdown in framerate at several points in the game where the visual and technical action get intense.

It is playable and even a good first person shooter both in terms of graphics and storyline,- although there are long periods of boring lackluster visuals and action, followed by occasional brief interludes where you find yourself actually enjoying the experience.

TUROK is Klingon for "Shut off that damn background music!" As I more than eluded to in the title of my review,- one of the most annoying [almost unbearable at times] things about this game was the lack of an option to turn off the horrific background music repetitive loop, that was nearly enough to make me quit playing and turn the game disc into a coffee coaster. (At one point, during a particularly difficult combat scenario, the repetitious music kept rising to a creshendo, as if it would end,- only to pause momentarily and began all over again; I thought my head would explode, and actually had to mute the sound altogether, to even continue). I generally disable background music in FPS, because in addition to the need to be aware of the degree of noise your character is making, to be stealthy,- it is necessary to be able to hear subtle sounds like snapping twigs or rustling brush, footsteps, etc., that tip you as to enemy position and suprise attacks (in the case of Turok, to hear Dino's too).

Game developers who fail to include the option to silence "torturous" background music, and instead integrate it into the soundeffects track, really piss me off; I mean,- I can understand if your sound production staff had spent a major portion of the development budget composing an original musical score that was a masterpiece,- rather than just a 'piece' [of s**t].

I own all three major platforms for playing games (highend custom selfbuilt gaming PC, 360 and PS3), so I would have to give the nod to PC for graphics and framerate,- and the 360 for my preference of having the tactile feel of forcefeedback controller that a gaming console provides, while still having decent graphics texture and detail, as well as fairly smooth playable framerate. The PS3 not only sacrificed framerate to run halfway acceptable graphic texture and detail,- (emphasis on halfway/halfass) but also failed to preserve most of the best graphic detail of the terrain that made the PC version an emersive experience with mood and visual feel of the jungle environment (that the XBOX 360 almost captures, doing better than PS3).

The jungle terrain and foilage are reminiscent of Ghost Recon, circa 1998ish PS2, or in places, 1rst generation Playstation games.

With all of the great FPS games available (Bioshock, FallOut 3, just to name a couple),- this game, even with some fun to be had at points, is really not worth spending much on, in terms of time or money.
It might be okay for a budget buy, if you have already played the games I mentioned, as well as some other now budget games,- like 'Assassin's Creed', 'Dead Space' or 'FarCry 2', 'Gears of War 1&2' 360/PS3 'Resistance 1&2',- and you want something inexpensive to amuse you while waiting for the sequels to the above mentioned great games.

Game review

Read several bad reviews on this game my take is it brought back good memories from the N64. To me had an Ok story but the dinosaurs were generic and you fought the same ones over and over just different colors. All in all I love it but it probably has to do with me being such a big turok fan from the earlier Nintendo days. And this is nothing like or even close to the original story.Read full review...

...and I don’t even like 1st person shooters.

The Turok games have only been so so. Then this final installment and a stroke of genius. 10/10...and I don’t even like 1st person shooters. From the story line, to the voice acting, gameplay and opposition, this is one for the archives. I really wanted a sequel or at the very least an HD remake like BioShock got for PS4 or Xbox one. I love this game.Read full review...

great game

This is just a very modern version of the old turok. I love it. The only problem I have with this game as well as the other Turok games is the camera view. when a lot is going on in the game and you are trying to stay alive (dino's trying to eat you & people shooting at you) it is very hard to look around & aim correctly. It's one of those games where you have to practice a lot to get you view down pat so you can hit your targets with out putting yourself in harms way. Other than that its a good game fast paced & worth buying. also, the graphics are great too.Read full review...

Troll and Toad's Turok Review

Turok is, to be brutally honest, a slightly below average, run of the mill, cliche driven FPS. When compared to its predecessor such as the original Turok, it seemed the developer decided to not incorporate what made the earlier games great and instead injected it with what made games such as Halo and Gears of War good. As soon as you start the game you find yourself as "space marine" Joseph Turok on a jungle planet with dinosaurs.

Perhaps the best feature of the game is in fact the dinosaurs. They act as a third, neutral faction in the game between you and the other space marines trying to kill you. If done properly you can even use them against your enemies and just watch the chaos ensue. Sadly however the stealth mechanic that you need to utilize for this is quite buggy, so you can only get into position for this about half the time.

Then we have the bad features. Several glitches on release, dialogue taken directly from Gears of War but somehow instead of just being camp came out unintelligent, and terrible aim assist just bogs down the game. The ideas presented were not executed as promised, which only made the game's flaws stand out all the more.

In short, if you're looking for a trip down memory lane for nostalgic feelings toward the first two games of the series, don't play this. While the graphics are quite nice, this jungle feels lackluster and has much to be desired.

Action and good story.

My son and I can play it together. It’s not strictly violence and swearing, although there are a few rough spots.
We both like dinosaurs and that’s a cool part of the game.

It made my son's day, thanks.

My son is into Dinosaurs and he found this game on youtube. It's an older game and I was glad I found a copy.

If you don't move, this game can't see you.

January 31, 2008 - In case you didn't notice, 2007 was the year of the first-person shooter. Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, BioShock and loads of other titles popped up at our local retailers and mercilessly beat our back accounts into comas. Sure, it was a good time, but it has left us a market flooded with shotguns, grenades and gamers hesitant to jump into another roaming battle. In short, a FPS in this first part of 2008 is going to have to have a hook to get some playtime.

Turok -- the latest project from Touchstone and Propaganda Games -- has two: dinosaurs and cool kills.
