A fun take on the Parappa franchise

To start off there is way more content in this game then the first Parappa game, more songs and you can even replay those songs as Parappa when you beat the game. You play as Lammy who instead of rapping plays guitar and as such you rock out to the teachers songs rather then rap which is a unique take on the franchise. The characters and visuals still fit the Parappa universe and even some of the characters from the original Parappa are in the game, yes even Parappa himself, which is really cool to see if you enjoyed the characters and style of the first Parappa The Rapper. The songs are great and I'm sure there may be some you listen to again after you play them.

My biggest complaint of the game is the detection of the button inputs. Sometimes you'll be playing a song and you'll sound spot on but for some reason the game will think you put the input in wrong leading to a lot of "What was wrong with that?" moments and sadly, at least in my experiences, it happens a little too often which can make the game more frustrating to play then fun. In the end though the game has a unique artstyle, catchy songs, an entertaining story, memorable characters, and overall is a game I would definitely recommend putting into your collection

Great game if your musically inclined! A must to any hardcore retro gamer!

A classic game with a style similar to guitar hero. This game was well before its time. Its a game about a girl named Lammy who is trying to get to her gig with her band Milkcan but gets side tracked and forced to help people along the way.

This game has custom music which is all very unique and great. If your musically inclined and love retro gaming I'd say this is a must have. Its also very cheap (even brand new). A great game to add to your collection.

The reason I give it 4 out of 5 stars is really only because of the scoring system. There are 4 ranks in the song you can get. Cool, good, bad, and awful. You need to finish the song on good or cool to pass the level. But heres the thing, you can be at awful the entire song, but if at the last few lines of the song you can end with good and pass the level. Alternatively, you can do good or cool the entire song then land on bad and you lose the level forcing you to start over. Besides this fact though, Its still a good game once you get used to it

Um Jammer Lammy is f-u-n FUN, for Pa Rappa lovers!!!

I recently bought Um, Jammer Lammy for PS1. I always loved Pa Rappa the Rapper on PS1 and I knew this game was the follow up version, but it was so rare even when it came out that I never purchased it. Well, I still have my PS1 (and many other systems now) so I decided to buy it on ebay. The thing I like about it is it's more challenging than Pa Rappa, and you're playing guitar instead of rapping. The old fave characters from Pa Rappa are in here still - so it feels very familiar. The thing I don't like about it is it's challenging too early on. If you never played Pa Rappa, you probably won't like this game. But if you have, you'll love it!Read full review...

If you like Parappa the Rapper, then you'll like...

This game is pretty fun, but also very frustrating. If your like me, then it's hard to hard keep up with the rhythm in Parappa the Rapper games. And attaining a cool rating? Nearly impossible. But nonetheless, this game has some catchy tunes as well as funny scenes that sort tie in with the other games. So if you like to rock, then you'll love to jam!Read full review...

Very fun game for casual gamers tons of fun 2 freestyle

Something about Parappa the Rapper appealed to me the very first time I read a review about it in a Game Informer in 1999. I was so psyched for the game and got it when it came out and played it all the time. There were songs that my friends and I memorized within the first night of playing it. And then, came this off the wall title, Um Jammer Lammy, the follow up to the cult hit of Parappa the Rapper!

Um Jammer Lammy is pretty much the same game as Parappa the Rapper, but instead of rapping, you are jamming on a guitar! This makes the song somewhat less memorable, however if you like music or have a certain appreciation for performers like Jimi Hendrix & the like, you will be hooked on this one!

If you have ever played games like Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania, or Guitar Hero, you should be able to pick up on this right away.

The concept is rather simple: You are given a stream of commands in the form of shapes corresponding to the buttons on your Playstation controller. The stream appears at the top of the screen while the music is going, and the object is to hit the corresponding buttons on your controller when the cursor scrolls over the shapes on the screen. It is much more intuitive than it sounds!

Think of it as a game of Simon Says: One person sings or raps a line, and you are supposed to mimic the melody with your guitar. The controller scheme is basic, and you are going to have to use your L & R buttons, as well as the triangle, square, circle and X buttons to make Lammy jam on her guitar. It is extremely fun!

And if you are a master at these kind of games, or are just a fan of making your own music as you go, you don't have to do everything the game commands you to do...mix up the song a little bit and give it your own little flavor. Doing this correctly will give you a rating of COOL (which is much easier to get on Um Jammer Lammy than it is on Parappa the Rapper!), and if you ever finish a stage with COOL, you will receive a special ending to the stage! This is a very fun challenge, and while in COOL mode, you don't get any commands, its up to you to jam and make your own music!

Other special features include:

- Beat the game & you get to play through again with an unlockable Parappa the Rapper!
- Obtain COOL on all stages to get a special ending!
- Versus and co-op mode so you can jam or compete with a friend!

I give Um Jammer Lammy a 5/5 rating because as basic as the game is, it offers plenty of challenge to even the casual gamer, and there is so much replay value to it that I still play it after 5 years of owning it! This is pretty inexpensive to pick up, and definitely lots of fun!

Um Jammer Lammy Whammy!

'Um Jammer Lammy', for playstation, is a distinctive looking game, with cartoon style visuals, good cinematic cut scenes, and of course music. Play Lammy through 6 levels, each progressively more challenging. Gain effects from the Masters, such as Distortion, Reverb, Harmonizer, Flanger, Wah Wah. Not an RPG, 'Um Jammer Lammy', rates your playing ability on a level from 'Bad' to 'Excellent', with a couple in between, such as 'Cool', (which, if that is all you obtain, you're doing pretty good); points are awarded for your performance, do well enough and gain an effect. Practice makes perfect, so expect to take some time to learn and master each level, and timing is essential. Funner than 'Air-Guitar', as your controller is now the instrument. If you think you've got fast fingers, and know your controller well, then give 'Um Jammer Lammy' a go; you won't be disappointed.Read full review...

Jammer Lammy Legendary; back in the day it was a hit

The music is great and I like the different styles and challenges; I played this at a younger age and i still play it today because of the fact how this somewhat differs from parappa the rapper. besides that me and my friends enjoy against competing and playing with each other in two player mode. It was made for Playstation so the graphics aren't updated like PS2,PS3 etc, but the game is still great no matter what age. It will take a while to become good if you are new to the game but if your experienced along with your friend/friends then it is very enjoyable for everyoneRead full review...
