Writing style good, but storyline drags. Great ending.

I was really excited about getting Invitation to a Beheading, because I had heard great things about it. I was thoroughly dissapointed though. It was incredibly difficult to track down a copy and hardly worth the effort. While the descriptive writing adeptly paints a picture of the setting, the story line is non-existant. It drags on for twenty chapters of nonsense, trying to leave you placated by an ironic and perfect ending. Frustrating. The voice of the book is long, flowing, and sometimes gets the meaning lost in the words, so you have to read it several times to get the idea.

Unless you are a hardcore Nabokov/ Kaufka reader, it's not worth your time.
