A must have for any Evel Knievel fan!

I will start off by saying that the movie is cheesy right from the beginning with the title song for the movie. The acting is mediocre and the storyline could have been written better but that is what you expect from a 70's film starring the legendary Evel Knievel as a larger than life superhero! The movie tanked at the box office but has become a smash hit cult film. I think everyone should watch it at least once for a chuckle or just to see the legend in his film debut! Evel Knievel lost all popularity the same year this was released for beating a man with a baseball bat and going to jail. I am an Evel Knievel fan so my opinion could be considered biased.Read full review...

Evel Knievel

I gave this movie an excellent rating only because I am a huge Evel Knievel fan and not because of the movie itself. The movie stars Evel, Leslie Nielsen, Red Buttons, Gene Kelly, and Lauren Hutton to name a few. Now I know what your thinking, with a cast like this how can you go wrong?, well, just pop this baby into your DVD or VHS player and you'll see just how wrong this can get. I think the sole purpose of putting out this movie back then was to give a second wind to Evel's career (post Snake River Canyon). You'll see some shameless plugs in it like in the opening scene where Evel is carrying a large box into an orphanage and gives the kids "Evel Knievel Stuntcycle" toys (I used to have one of those). You'll also notice his posters on their bed room wall which were sold back in the day (had that too). The movie was a bomb when it was released to the theaters back in 1977 (not quite sure on the date but roughly) and it hasn't fared any better since. Unfortunately there are only 3 stunt scenes in the movie and unfortunately the jumps were performed by another stuntman (secret that was kept during the movie's release). If you like cheesy 70's flicks, big hair, bell bottoms, bad acting and script, and a guy that made a career out of breaking 35 bones on his motorcycle (see Guinness Book of World Records) than this movie is for you. For those of us who are Knievel fans it's a wonderful time capsule of the man and of a time and an era long gone by. "Stay strong Evel, wherever you are".

11/30/2007 Rest in Peace Evel. Thank You for those Wonderful Jumps and the Memories.

Viva Knievel Is Top Of The Mark...

Evel Himself engages viewers here with top of the mark storyline in it's accuracy and the stunts....well, Evel handles them himself. Not entirely pleasing were other Evel Knievel made for television movies or cinema features like the 1971 feature starring George Hamilton, who really shouldn't be chastised here, it's just this particular one Evel makes more authentic in that he's in it.
Really satisfied with this all the way around, and really would like to recommend.

Its Knievel for Gods Sake!

Ok, this is a seriously horrible movie, but it has motorcycles! Purchased for collection of bike movies. If you can sit thru the whole thing in one sitting, you likely have all of the Dukes of Hazard on VHS or maybe Hee-Haw.

Do ya like Knievel? Do you like to make rude comments when a movie is on? Do you want to really piss off your wife? Pop the movie in with some friends, popcorn and beer and you are set to go!

Memories

This movie was purchased just for the memories. I remember watching it at the drive-in with my dad 32 years ago! My kids watched it. No, teenagers just don't get the importance of a red, white, and blue cape anymore. Where did the patriotism go? LOL. I encorage all of you to go back and relive a bit of your childhood - even if nobody else gets it!Read full review...
