Bottom Line:WKRP Was About The Music Too!

Just inexcusable! Makes you wish they just didn't release it in the first place. A show about a radio station without the signature music?!!? What were they thinking? The conversation with Arthur and Johnny discussing the dog bark effects on Pink Floyd's "Dogs" is classic, and now it's gone. I will NOT be buying this, because even though these edits don't take up the majority of the shows, they do take away from the atmosphere and timeliness of the era the show originally had. Don't get me wrong, I love this show, but the way "I" grew up with it, and that included the songs, those classic songs.

And some of the episodes are syndicated, cut versions? In this day and age of DVD entertainment, this is just insulting to the buying public. This classic show deserves more respect than this. They should have dished out the money and paid these musical artists what they deserve to keep the show originally intact and remastered the ORIGINAL broadcast prints, not these second generation edited tapes. Actually a simple task, but no.

So, basically if this DVD set was a turkey (which in my opinion it is), it would hit the ground like a sack of wet cement.

Great to see these WKRP Classics again !

I really enjoyed seeing this classic show once again. It's a shame that the other seasons are not available the same way. I have read that one of the biggest reasons is that the original WKRP shows used real and current (from those days) sound clips, being the music the disc jockeys would play. The cost of the licencing rights to those clips make it too prohibitive to release as originally aired. I believe in this boxed set "canned" songs were also substituted for the original music. Still it's great to see the original opening, Turkey's Away, a Fish Story, and other classics. Even with the inserted music, I still give it 2 thumbs up ! BONUS - there are some great interviews and behind the scene features as well.Read full review...

Very entertaining TV show

WKRP in Cincinnati is a thoroughly watchable and enjoyable TV series. It never fails to make me laugh. The characters are very unique yet well-developed; the writing is superb, and the acting is top-notch, especially, the character played by Howard Hesseman called Dr. Johnny Fever. I highly recommend it to anyone!Read full review...

A Blast from the Past? Sort Of!!!

I loved this show as a kid. A show about Rock N Roll and the radio station that delivers it to the fans. But this DVD does NOT deliver to the fans! The legal rights to many of the songs keep them off this season one DVD set. Why would an artist NOT want their music replayed on this show? Do they want more money? Or is it the record companies? All I know is that the music of the show WKRP is what MADE the SHOW truely ROCK....the music was the SHOW. But without the songs it does not make sense. It is like watching a puppet show with french sub titles. It just does not make any sense at all!Read full review...

The Doctor is back in...

As a die-hard WKRP fan since season one, episode one, I've been anxiously awaiting this (not many reruns around anymore). Since I won't patronize questionable sourced videos, it's been a long awaited appearance for these DVDs. Even though the original music is not here, it's still good stuff, but... I'd be willing to pay the extra few bucks and get the original music, though. It adds more to the context of the dialog and plot to hear the original music. Now, bring on the rest of the series - PLEASE!Read full review...

WKRP DVD Rocks !

This WKRP DVD took me back to that magical world with the adel-minded Herb Tarlick, the lovely Jennifer Marlow, the rock and roll burnout Dr. Johnny Fever, the ever smooth Venus Flytrap, the shy Bailey Quarters, the tentative Mr. Carlson, the Recluse Les Nesmen, and the hopeful leader, Travis. What magical characters and so well played. This DVD also features commentary by some of the cast on certain episodes. neat stories for all you KRP buffs. I haven't laughed so hard as well I relived the, "Turkey Day" episode. Somehow, it was even funnier this time around.

I would say that there is no one who would not like this dvd for themselves. But be advised, you will be bidding against me since I intend to get some more of them as gifts for my friends next year.

Great Buy! Don't get mislead.

WKRP in Cincinnati: Season 1 compiles some of my favorite moments in television and one of the funniest moments in TV history as ranked by TV Guide. I have been a big fan of the show and, although I rarely watched it during its first run, I have watched each episode repeatedly in syndication.

I've seen where some people were disappointed in this release because of the fact that they have replaced much of the original music from the show with bland fill in material. I do agree that the musicians could have done a better job with the fill in music and it would have been nice to have the original music, but I do not feel like it impaired this DVD release at all. I have enjoyed watching this DVD and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loved the show. I guess I would have to say this about the music. Were you watching for the music or were you watching for the comedy? I watched for the comedy and it is all still there.

The bottom line is that I cannot wait for seasons 2 and 3. Even though I acknowledge a problem with the fill in music, to have the DVD with that is better than not having the DVD at all. If you're a fan of 'KRP, then you shouldn't miss this release.

The music is GONE!!!

Truly, this is one of the most disappointing items I've ever purchased. WKRP was one of THE great sitcoms, but it's like one of the main characters has been stripped away. It seems the maker of the DVDs couldn't (or wouldn't) get the rights to the music that was such an integral part of the show. In some cases, whole scenes have been stripped away, because of the record that was playing. In many others, generic music has replaced a great song of the time. The comedy is still great fun in many places, but without the music, well, it's just not like I remember it. What a travesty.Read full review...
