Desperately Striving To Perform, Delivers Heavy Punch!

This film, directed by foreign film-maker Timur Bekmambetov, packs a super fast punch to the heavy action movie-goers. We find that the frustrated, boring nobody going nowhere named Wesley Gibson played by James McAvoy.

It might be hard to call this a supernatural blockbuster, but holds its own with a stunning cast of big-time stars like Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman.

Based on a series of graphic novels, this film explores the intricacies of a small time guy yearning to explore his own abilities when he discovers that he is invited to join a group who calls themselves the Fraternity. These people assassinate others based on an intricate weaving machine that spits out names based on fate and fate alone. This clan of killers counted his father as one of them, however, we later find out a twist in the plot-line that helps explain many things.

Pursued by rogue agent Cross (Thomas Kretschmann), Wesley is trained by the sleek, sexy Fox (Angelina Jolie) and the charismatic Sloan (Morgan Freeman).

Once Wesley becomes his own master assassin, he must face his major opponent confront Cross.

While Fox (Jolie) has a strong presence in her scenes, the film belongs to McAvoy, who plays his part much to our satisfaction, after learning how he has been transformed.

Curving bullets may sound crazy, however, we soon find out that this is one of the Fraternities tricks.

Don't miss this film, yet, let me warn you of the heavy war-faring content and an endless supply of bullet popping blow-aways.

I'm going to give this film a 4/5 since I don't totally agree with the content or the typical never-ending barrage of fowl language.

farfetched & little bizarre but that's the beauty of it

I thought this film was mindless, campy, and reeks of fun. "Wanted" maybe filled with plot holes as big as Jupiter but at least they made it up in the area of visual style served with a side action. You've probably met a person like Wesley Gibson (McAvoy) who is a nobody trapped in a boring world. Whose girlfriend cheats on him, his best friend is a backstabber, and he has a boss that won't get off his back. No...maybe...Well later in the film an assassin named Fox (Jolie) tries to initiate him into the Fraternity, his life is changed forever. He learns that his father was one of the best assassins in the world, and he must no walk in his footsteps. He leaves his nothing life and joins the Fraternity. He must undergo a grueling initiation, and then hunt down the man that killed his father.

`Wanted' has decent character development along with a good plot. It is structured well, with Wesley not being able to turn back after Act 1, and a great setup for the climax after Act 2. There is even symbolism in the movie with a draw bridge coming apart. It symbolized the end of Wesley's old life. There are many obstacles put in Wesley's path of killing Cross. The screenwriter made sure that becoming a Fraternity member wasn't an easy challenge. There is a great twist in the middle of the movie, which made the movie way better. The ending is very entertaining. It starts off with a big bang that was planted since the beginning of Wesley's life with the Fraternity. One problem was that the action was either overdone or illogical in parts. In one scene, Wesley hits a man with a keyboard, and letters fly off spelling a phrase I'm not aloud to repeat.

`Wanted' has a very good director and I had seen his previous films but a mild fan of them. It was a smart choice to pick a foreign director to get a new perspective on things in regards to the lighting and the settings. For example, Wesley's apartment being next to a train is a good setting because it bleak and it shows how sad his life is and foreshadows later events. The office is a good place to show how average his life is and the textile mill seems true to what the Fraternity is about. The acting is good and expected by others such as Morgan Freeman who is always a good actor, although I would like to see him in a different role time to time. James McAvoy played a great lead, reminiscent Edward Norton in Fight Club. We have Angelina, who has less line than the boss, so that makes me consider she was placed there for her fame and beauty. Even though she was the weakest of the group she was still believable and had worse material to work with. The minor actors, like Wesley's best friend did a good job as well.

Aside from that it instantly forgettable stuff but if you're looking for something noisy and totally undemanding then this would fit that bill.

Wanted... The DVD

Ok, I didn't go to the theaters to see this one...

And I only recently read the trade paperback containing the comics this film was based on.

However, the film itself was pretty good in that it cleaned up the storyline from the comics and was a good film to watch.

Would I watch it again? Probably, but not right away...

Today was the first day that the DVD was released at our video rental store, so I wanted to see it. Was a little displeased that this DVD had NO xtras. None, nada... but that was the only DVD that was there at the store.

The film itself listed the creators of the comics as co-producers of the film. However the film is only loosely based on the comics in my estimation. The general scheme of things is familar but the setting and the persons have been turned around... a lot!

However the film kept me in suspense and was worth renting!

Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, and Morgan Freeman made this film worthwhile watching! Kudos to them!

Indeed... Good movie.

I saw this on premier night, it was interesting. It's not like every other movie you watch, it can leave you confused at times but you still get excited to see every scene.
I read the other reviews.. 1. The meat lockers probably there because they PUT it there. 2. It helps them to develop strength and determination to go beyond getting beat up. 3. If you can curve it, you can control it. 4. The head guy was corrupt, he was making mass amounts of money off of this, he wanted him in- he would have done anything to succeed. 5. Because sometimes you have to finish them off, or maybe your fighting someone closer to home. 6. Maybe it didn't make sense to you but that doesn't mean other people didn't get it. 7. Everyone has a reason, ok? 8. Maybe they were in a different bath?
Everything has an answer, why do you need them answered anyways? It was a great movie.. Interesting, action filled, sometimes on the edge of your seat. It is not the best movie in the world but I get it 4/5.

This movie was awesome..

I totally disagree with the other reviewer who basically picked a fantasy movie apart which is ludicrous because it was not meant to me realistic......why take every scene and anyalyze the hell out of it?....just sit back and enjoy. I saw this on an international flight, had never heard of it even though I am an avid movie goer. I have to say I was quite surprized at how much I enjoyed the film not knowing what to expect. James McAvoy is darling in the role and the premise is very different and it worked for me......much like Office Space meets V for Vendetta....an unusual mix of high energy action with a bit of office comedy thrown in. It obviously has a message which I thought was key and it is a bit extreme in getting the message across however this is what makes the movies great, different and very enjoyable. To the other reveiwer.............usually people are beaten to toughen them up....that's a no brainer.Read full review...

WANTED

One of the GREAT action/fantasy movies I have watched in a long time. Jolie
is excellent in her part as 'FOX'. Morgan as good as ever as the surprise
"bad guy" here. I LOVED the music-that starts and ends this movie also.
The plot starts when doormat to the world Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy-Spiderman) discovers that his recently murdered Father-who Wesley never
knew- belonged to a secret guild of assassins. After Jolie drafts Wesley
into the society, he hones his innate killing skills and turns avenger.
Chicago is the backdrop for this thriller as Morgan Freeman leads the
brotherhood of executioners. The action goes worldwide as Wesley does
job after job -until he meets the master killer himself & figures things
out- and they are nothing like he first thought. Good ending to a movie
that will really thrill and entertain most people for an evening.

I like assassin movies

This one is good. Music is good, acting, plot twist. It may have an excess of shooting gore, but it fits with movie, and its fantastical, not too James bond, but not too video game either.

good action movie, lots of swearing.

I like all of these actors! The in your face language I really enjoyed. The fast moving action just about wore me out watching it. The foul language was unexpected but very entertaining. The movie was real and very believable!Read full review...
