Warriors… Come Out And Play

One of the best story based games out there. Based on an ultimate classic movie of the same name, this is one of the great games in the PS2 era. If you’re a fan of the movie, you will LOVE this game. Even if you don’t know the movie, you will still find a great game here.!Read full review...

Excellence

Very fun and replayable gameplay also one of the best couch co op games for the gaming connoisseur. It made me wanna watch the movie and I figured out it is identical in all ways that matter to the movie with added scenes and lore.Read full review...

The Warriors came out to play.

This game was always one of my all-time favorites. Very well made, faithful to The Warriors story and setting. Very, very fun and great for fans of the movie and the other PS2 Rockstar game State of Emergency. Getting the PS2 disc was well worth it and brings me back to easier days. Booklet is awesome with a little profile on every gang and I really miss when games came with nice things to flip through before diving into gameplay. Well worth whatever price, honestly. "Warriors...come out to play!"

The Warriors game which was developed and published by Rockstar Games, is actually based on the 1979 cult classic film "The Warriors". The Warriors game includes different events of the movie, as well as a new introduction that led up to the events of the movie. Many of the movie actors did voice overs for the game, so it makes it all the more interesting and makes you feel like you are part of the movie. The game is excellent, the graphics and character models are nicely done, the sound and effects are of excellent quality, and the gameplay is intense with a high replay value. There are few things that are not so great though. For one, the game is loaded with extreme amounts of violence and profanity, which you would expect from Rockstar games who developed other controversial titles such as the Grand Theft Auto games, Manhunt, and Max Payne. Another con, the game does have some minor glitching, which can really only be found on the PS2 version of the game. The Warriors is an excellent addition to anyones video game library (not if you are under 18), and I give this game an excellent rating of 5/5!Read full review...

The Warriors or, the intricacies of costumed thugary.

While some may claim that this modification of the Manhunt engine may fall short of being an amazing game, I would argue that the game itself is a wonderful representation of what The Warriors as a movie has to offer. In short, is a lot of brutality that not only provides the game with a satisfying edge, but a level of immersion that easily overshadows most of the games technical shortcomings. The combat in The Warriors is frantic and down-right graphic and the sound feels organic during these fight scenes; when you hear a bottle break over someone’s head the first time you will probably wince. Even running in this game feels panicked due to the loose controls, which make it feel as though the player is running as fast as they can to get away from the cops or an opposing gang. And when a second player is thrown into the mix that’s when the fun really begins, tackling becomes frantic and somewhat challenging in an attempt to not break up your buddy’s combo (there is no way to turn off “friendly fire” in this game).
The level design is fair, with “extra objectives” (really just a few regular objectives whose locations have been removed from the mini-map) that unlock new gangs in the brawl mode (over 400 unlockables). There are also unlockables found outside of your hideout which will improve your gang’s chances of survival on the mean streets (such as hand-cuff keys). There are also back story missions that in addition to the 13 main story missions (5 of which encompass the content of the movie). All in all, if you’re a fan of The Warriors, you'll be able to see past some of the less than beautiful graphics to see a wonderfully fleshed out version of the world of the Warriors. And even if you are just curious, this is a beat'em up you need to check out. And while your at it, get a friend to keep you covered for twice the fun, a second chance when you're down (they can get you out of cuffs), and a lot of back and forth oneupsmanship.

Wanna kill some homeless people?

I first saw this game at a friend's apartment a few months ago.

At that point, I had never even heard of the movie. Just watching him play the game it looked very similar to GTA.

After looking it up on imdb.com, i discovered that it was a movie, and after reading all the board posts on the movie, it made me badly want to see it. usually when i have high expectations of a movie, it disappoints, but this one didn't.

seeing the reviews on gaming websites for the warriors game made me want to get it even more.

i've now had the game for awhile, and i'm not through it. the storyline of the game starts out a couple months before the plotline of the movie (i haven't even gotten to the movie plot yet) - you get to see the origins of the warriors gang and how each member joins. it's pretty sweet.

for each story mission there are bonus missions, and bonus objectives within the story missions, as well as a number of other side missions.

and, as every other review likely makes clear, the savagery of the combos you can pull off is sometimes a little excessive. excessively awesome, that is.

there is something gratifying about beating people to death with your bare hands, or using pipes, bottles, bricks, and the occasional knife.

there's plenty of playtime, and though the combos are pretty simple to pull off, there's a pretty decent range of moves you can do.

all in all, this game is super sweet.

The Warriors (Playstation 2)

Over the course of the game, it’s quite impressive just how well Rockstar was able to recreate the gritty, grungy New York originally portrayed in the movie version of The Warriors. The streets and alleys players will wander through have plenty of little touches that help to make the game world feel far more alive. Walls of buildings will have tags marking off gang turf, there’s plenty of litter on the street, and there’s this constant, over-arching dirtiness to everything that helps drive home that players are indeed walking through gang-ruled ghettos. However, while the environments look great, the characters in The Warriors could use a little work. Their animations are up to snuff, with very convincing fence jumping, face punching, and groin kicking, but the details, especially for their faces, isn’t pretty. All of the characters look like they did a ton of botox, leaving their faces numb so that only their mouths move, with some occasional eyebrow raises for extra flavor. It’s creepy to look at.Read full review...
